What purpose do movies and music serve in your life?

Seems that I watch movies and listen to music religiously. In many ways, music and movies are how I comprehend a world I dont full understand or get. Its a way for me to deal with my feelings. To try to understand my feelings, and how I feel.

Hard to really explain. I remember quite clearly, becoming a different person around 2006. Around that time, September of that year, I gave up politics which had been THE thing in my life since 2000, and started listening to music I would never have before, like Death Cab, and Modest Mouse, and started watching movies that never would have made it to my consciousness before-Vanilla sky, Eternal Sunshine, old Boy, I started to become someone new. Someone better. I needed to, in order to be happy and in order to survive.

And I think a large part of that change occured because I saw these movies, and listened to this music. They were catalysts in my change.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

I am not a movie person. I see the really popular ones, but i have seen way less than I should have. I am nowhere near as fluent in them as all my friends. Maybe this will change in the coming years, idk.

    Music is my life.
I listen to it for enjoyment, just to rock out and dance/play air guitar.
I listen to it for emotional reasons, some songs really inspire/let me cope/make me happy, etc.
I listen to it cause its the only way to make my schoolwork better. While the busy day of a college student has alot of homework, i listen to music to enjoy the work I have to do.

I always tried to figure out why I like certain songs. whether it be the lyrics, beat, melody, mood, memories, etc.

Without music I would truely be lost.

Maybe like an escape. Entertainment in general is just awesome. Movies, books, newspapers, Howard Stern (not radio) and music can sometimes make you think and sometimes it's just pure entertainment and something to laugh about with friends. It's important to ba able to goof and have a sense of humor about everything and they just help that.

Music is an integral part of my daily life. The right song or album in the morning can make my day. No good song or a shitty song on the radio can break my day. CD's or an IPod are ways to keep in control of my music and filter what I like to hear. A lot of my $$ nowadays are still spent on CD's and DVD's.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.
