Interested in trading sealed vinyl for opened vinyl

I just got a record player this year, and I'd love to play some of the PJ albums that I have. I have some vinyl that has stayed sealed for so long because I had no need to open it, and now I realize that collectors covet these items. My friend, for instance, opened his No Code just to look at it, and he'd prefer to have it sealed now. So I'm appealing to those of you who are like him. All I care about is having the album with all its original contents, and an album that is in good shape and doesn't skip AT ALL. The jacket condition is no concern.

I know I could just open mine, but why deny someone else the opportunity to have what they want? I like it when everybody is happy!

So here's what I have, and the condition:
Live on Two Legs: A little bend in three of the corners, a little shrink on the top is coming away (about 1-2"), and a small bit on the front.

Lost Dogs: Bottom-left corner is exposed, and more than half the top is coming away. The two exposed corners have minimal wear, and the other two are great.

Ten: I'm willing to just get rid of this one, since I have it in the box set. Made in Germany, sealed and in great condition.

vs.: Bottom right corner is peeled back pretty good, and there's some wear. The other three corners have minimal exposure, but it's in good shape considering its age.

No Code: Somehow the entire bottom is entirely exposed, but up no higher than about 1/4". A small ding in the upper-left corner, but otherwise great shape.

Riot Act: Best condition of all, only a tiny bit of the shrink has a split on the front.

I'm not sure if the condition of these makes them unappealing, if unopened to the average collector means mint. My hope is that I can trade them out for the same one, plus get the difference in the value of an unopened vs. and opened copy. Of course the condition of mine will be a consideration. If I'm finding no interest at all, or if you all think I'm insane for even doing this, then I'll happily open them all. Just trying to be nice, I suppose. PM me if you are interested.

What's the value for you of an open Riot act vs a sealed one? Can you give a range for each, maybe that would make the trade easier.

    Why not (V) (°,,,,°) (V) ?
  • I think this is an awesome idea. All my vinyl is open, though. I wish I had Live On 2 Legs to trade you...but then I wouldn't need it.

I hope they get to the other reissues soon!

Good point, arq. So here goes.

My price estimate listed first, and the value of an opened one listed second.

    Riot Act: $100/75
    No Code: $75/50
    vs.: $55/40
Ten: Just want to sell it, and not sure of the value of a made in Germany one. Make offer
    Lost Dogs: $140/90
    Live on Two Legs: $150/120

Again, we can negotiate if any of these seem unreasonable. Plus, I don't have Binaural at all, and would love to have it. That album alone would make up almost all of the difference between everything I'm offering.

And I "posted" this 10 minutes ago, and somehow it never showed up. Thank goodness for the back button!

best of luck in your search. I think the only album that might be worth your time in doing this is Lost Dogs. All the rest dont really have much of a value difference between sealed and opened. but thats just my opinion.

and everyone else's who is into the vinyl that listens to them...especially considering yours sound a touch beat up, despite being unopened....all of mine are opened, but in near flawless condition...condition REALLY matters to most

Is not impossible to find but you don't see it too often.

Even though this thread has died, I just wanted to let you know that I'm probably just going to open what I have. I knew this was a shot in the dark, because most people here play the music. But I certainly wasn't going to find interest on ebay. So anyway, thanks for your feedback, as I've learned a lot on what's out there and how to value things. But it's time to get REAL value out of my vinyl!

(Oh, I still really want self-titled and Binaural. I hate ebay.)
