They played 'No excuses' when they played here in Manchester. Can't remember if they played anymore from Jar of Flies. I always thought their acoustic stuff is probably their best.

if nutshell isn't the best song of all time i don't know what is.
  • I saw them over the 2009 summer. They played No Excuses and Nutshell from the Jar of Flies EP. After performing Nutshell Jerry leaned into the mic and said, "That one's for the old boy."

THE greatest fucking EP in the history of music. Layne was a genious. But so is Jerry. Don't Follow is my favorite AIC song. I could listen to this continuously for a year without getting sick of it.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

    The whole EP is genius.

They are truly at their best with the more acoustic stuff.

  • I used to play this EP almost continuously when I was working nights. I both would and wouldn't recommend listening to this album in the small hours. It sounds more amazing but also has a much heavier impact on your emotions (at least it did for me!!)

I've yet to hear a finer solo than in "I Stay Away". It's short and to the point, but feels like the band's collective emotions are being amplified through Jerry's guitar. It's so beautifully crafted it never fails to give me goosebumps.
It's gonna be a glorious day...

I love Whale and Wasp - not much of an instrumental guy but this one is super.
