no. the progressives are saying fuck bipartisanship. they are saying obama wasted too much time trying to reach out and play nice with the gop, even though they knew that the gop was never going to go along with anything the dems want to do. look how "bipartisanship" burned obama this time.

You got it wrong bro. You're not getting it. Obama is failing because he thought he could pass anything with his 60 senators. He didn't play nice, if he had he would have gotten some of the other senators to agree with him. He ignored everybody. He's done...finito. His arogance ruined what could have been a historic presidency. He had almost 70% of the people pulling for him and he blew it. There were so many things that everybody agreed on but he went for his super duper left agenda instead. Health care is over and it's all Obama's fault. He's weak.

health care reform is over because the majority of PEOPLE do not want it. never did, never will.

your system sucks. i've worked under it. it's a fucking disgrace. you want it? good luck with that.

    the end.

super duper left agenda? wouldn't that be universal care? You won't even find Obama demanding a public insurance option so how does your statement make sense? Or are you just vomiting it out there like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh for people to step in?

    it's similar.
and 700,000 people don't go bankrupt every year due to medical bills.

the Health system in the States is nothing to be proud of. government run health care is not without some problems either, but I've worked in a country that has universal health care and im working in a country that doesn't. so i have experienced both.

the one thing i will say about the Country that did have it....people that require urgent life saving non elective surgery are treated as a priority. the same thing does not happen here.

and thats a fact. what good is having the best doctors in the world, when the people that need them the most can't get treatment?

i can only go on my experience. and that's how i see it.

anyone with a brain would agree with you....there are too many universal or similar systems in the world that are superior to the US system to argue.

I am a small business owner and while my family and myself are in good health I have seen my employees get burned by our system too many times. We are at the mercy of insurance companies....for some reason the average American is ok with having insurance companies control our health care destiny but they will go apeshit if anyone suggest universal care.

My wife is a medical transcriptionist and she has transcribed hundreds of letters from doctors begging insurance companies to cover certain tests or procedures for their patients. That has become the norm in our system....Doctor demands testing, insurance company refuses, doctor writes request to cover, insurance company denies or agrees....all the while the patient is delayed treatment

The only people who don't support some kind of change are the ones who haven't been burnt yet but their time will come.

i know, it's insane :(. i will never understand the acceptance by so many people that it's ok for the health insurance companies to line their own fat pockets at the expense of their health and well being.

it's so frustrating when people like MB262000 immediately attack someones views because they feel that if you are not born and bred in America you can't and shouldn't have any opinion. one day people might realize that if i didn't love the place i wouldn't be here, and that i speak out because i do care and i know there's a better way things can be done. i don't have all the answers, i just know that what we have now is not working.

People like that are the problem with this country and they don't realize it. The politicians (mainly the GOP) feed on the ignorance of the masses to vote their butts in office.

Why any blue collar worker supports the GOP is beyond me....but when you examine the reasons why it is really depressing.

The GOP pulled out the welfare card (all welfare recipients are lazy, etc.) and the anti-American card (any questioning of the GOP means you are a communist) and use guns and the bible to rope these people in.

Don't get me wrong....both sides are pathetic and corrupt but the GOP is the dirtier of the two.

Maybe you shouldn't be so judgemental of what other people have! Maybe some people have it pretty good because they worked very fucking hard to get it that way.

Whether someone works hard or not does not change the fact that the World Health Organization ranks the USA #37 in the world....behind every industrialized nation

Yeah, and any questioning of the liberals means you're a racist, the devil, an idiot, careless, evil, stupid, a bigot, and prejudice....i've heard all these things, even on t.v......and people wonder why everybody is turning to the right. Look at MSNBC and CNN, they won't even talk conservative, they will not even report the news if it might go against there liberal leftists progressive views. You people feel like the health care system can not be fixed without the government because that is what they taught you. Just like the banks and the auto makers.....and we all know how much good they did there....NONE!

Hey TA, I have a friend who's an Aussie also, and she thinks that Americans are nuts for putting up with insurance run healthcare like we do. It's amazing to see things here from across the pond and how screwed up things can be, but we don't know it, because it's all we've ever had. I've listened to her stories about very long mandatory maternity leaves (isn't it a year over there?), when all we're mandated is 6 stinking weeks.

I kinda feel for those who are so focused on their own little hole in the world to not see the other options that can be. The majority of Americans are like this, and typically it's those of us who have hardly traveled outside the country, and/or fail to even try to understand what life in other countries is like. They'd rather judge when they don't even truly understand.

no kidding....if the average american actually educated himself about any given issue that he/she wants to argue about we would actually get somewhere in this country. Too many people rely on Fox news to pollute their minds without fact checking both sides of the issue.

not only does the insurance/hmo industry profit so much from health insurance but they profit so much by denying coverage/approval!

it's wrong, shameful a disgrace...what our health system is like. and it only gets worse year after year you pay more in premiums and get less and less in coverage. it's sad what the health insurance and pharmaceutical companies have been allowed to get away with at the expense of people's health and lives
    don't compete; coexist

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

It's amazing to see things here from across the pond and how screwed up things can be, but we don't know it, because it's all we've ever had. I've listened to her stories about very long mandatory maternity leaves (isn't it a year over there?), when all we're mandated is 6 stinking weeks.

I kinda feel for those who are so focused on their own little hole in the world to not see the other options that can be. The majority of Americans are like this, and typically it's those of us who have hardly traveled outside the country, and/or fail to even try to understand what life in other countries is like. They'd rather judge when they don't even truly understand.
that's right, it is 12 months maternity leave (14 weeks is actually paid leave). they are also very accomodating if you wish to go back to work on a part time basis rather than full time when the 12 months is over, which is great for the families with children.

bah, compassion has no place in a profitable business model!
    don't compete; coexist

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama

when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'

Paid maternity leave in australia is up to the individual employer at the moment, in 2011 it will be brought in that women get 18 weeks paid leave at the rate of minimum wage and it will be income tested. But we also get other support via family tax benefit and parenting payment for low income earners. Also when the baby is born or adopted parents recieve the baby bonus, it used to be paid in a lump sum, but last year they changed it so that it is paid fortnightly over 13 fortnightly installments.

Ok then...I'll leave you guys to carry on now!!! LOL

thought this was interesting or at least worth a look.

    Godfather.

Despite President Obama's long history of criticizing the Bush administration for "sweetheart deals" with favored contractors, the Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.

The contract, awarded on Jan. 4 to Checchi & Company Consulting, Inc., a Washington-based firm owned by economist and Democratic donor Vincent V. Checchi, will pay the firm $24,673,427 .....

The Republicans are leaning left... Holy shit, what is right then?

And at least the 'street thug' (I find that disgusting, by the way) got in on his own, without the help of Daddy.

That's the point, there is no party that represents me. The Republican position on most spending issues for the past 2 decades has been to chop off about 10-20% of what the Democrats want to spend and call it fiscal responsibility.

As far as the "street thug", would street "agitator" be more accurate? He was a "community organizer". What do you think that means in Chicago, the most corrupt city in the most corrupt state in our country. 3 governors of Illinois have gone to jail in the past 35 years, and Blago is about to make it 4.[/quote]

You're full of crap - I live in Louisiana, so I can safely say there's no way Illinois is the most corrupt state in the country... a close second, maybe, but no way you're first - nice try though lol

Seriously... while Jindal isn't in jail, it was just revealed that many of our state politicians used campaign contribution money to buy apartments, furniture, and football tickets. Some used theirs to pay for the campaigns of their friends. All of which is illegal - though they probably won't be punished, since we have a governor who takes a helicopter to church every Sunday (yes, he takes a helicopter to church) and says it's appropriate because going to church counts as a business trip.

Keep that in mind if he ever runs for president

As for Obama, I would've voted for him if I could've (but I'm a foreigner so I can't) - but he hasn't exactly blown me away. That being said, it's still early - I liked Bush after a year too, and look how that turned out. Wait and see how his policies look down the road.

And, like some of my fellow downunderites have said - the health care system in the US is a joke. I don't care who fixes it, but it has to be fixed. The thing that pisses me off about politicians on both sides of the aisle over here is that they really don't want to make that much of an effort to work together. Every time an election rolls around, the % of times you voted along party lines gets dredged up as if it's the only way to tell if someone is a good politician or not (well, that and how often you go to church). Politicians should put their egos aside and realize that once they get to D.C., they work for America. And, in the course of doing your job, sometimes the other guy is going to have a better idea than you - it's inevitable. It pisses me off to see politicians refuse to support good ideas simply because their party didn't think of it (and I'm talking about more than just health care).
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.
