Has anybody tried to get this to work either with wine or another program. Apple should make a version for Linux but they suck hard. just wondering because my wife has an ipod she never uses and I would like to possibly purchase music.

  • i love linux...i love my ipod...linux did not love my ipod. i ran windows (Which i'm not the biggest fan of, but whatever) for the longest time with my ipod and my ipod worked great. i decided to try out ubuntu and fell in love with it. i got a whole bunch of new music to put on my ipod and plugged in my ipod into my computer to dump the music onto it...since then my ipod has been so messed up. it freezes all of the time and lots of other problems. ubuntu+my ipod got so bad that ubuntu stopped recognizing my ipod as an ipod and began recognizing it as a mass storage device. i switched back to windows and haven't had a problem. but yeah you're right...itunes really needs to distribute their software to ubuntu. it just doesn't make sense.

I just run itunes in an XP virtual machine. Not the most elegant solution, but it accomplishes what I need, which I think is all that matters.

Apple will never make an iTunes port for Linux. Apple is intensely guarded about its intellectual property and will never allow any of it to go into any open source environment.
