You Aren't Helping

In the wake of a movie
Capturing public imagination
Religious leaders issue warnings
To not let a love of the natural world
Cloud our judgment and
Replace our belief in God
Of course
They know a good story
Is more rewarding than the truth

If you really believe
How do you separate God’s creation
From the deity
Is it acceptable to trash his art galleries
Vandalize his museums and
Poison his gardens
As long as we have faith
He is going to welcome us
Into his home one day

And why let something
You can actually see
Hear
Touch and smell
Something living and breathing
Recycling energy
For billions of years
Affect your belief in
In a Johnny come lately
Mission statement

You are a suit toeing the company line
Afraid of logic cutting into fiscal projections
Scared people might replace your income and
Antiquated notions with rational thought

All you do is draw imbecilic lines
In a dune-shifting desert
Justifying a destructive march
Against the Mother who bore
And sustains us
Convincing the masses
That God intended a separation
From his initial blueprint

Remember your own tale of Eden
Why would you encourage anyone
To turn their back on such beauty
Wasn’t that supposed to be
God’s idea of heaven right here on Earth
Why fight a return to such a pristine state
Unless it has something to do with the fact
Folks were running around naked
And nobody had a pocket you could pilfer
