  • honestly though, it really is. amazing lyrics. that fucking song makes me weep every time. binaural came out in a very traumatic year for me, with both my grandma and cousin dying, one of old age and one of cancer. i was a fucking mess and the lyrics to this song was everything i wanted to say but wasnt eloquent enough to get down.

    whoever this song is about must have been one hell of a person considering the sentiments in the lyrics.

  • Sad was better. Oh wait, that didn't make the album.

    I think I'd go with Given to Fly. Even if we all are maybe a little tired of it.

    Hold on - was Immortality a single? Ok, that's gotta be the one, since it's my favorite song.

    I'm not 100% sure of this, but the song may have been written about a girl who the band knew and worked at sony many year ago and died. I have no other info, but I remember Eddie dedicating this song to her at a live concert.

    I disagree.

    X gets the square!

    *applause*

    ~~~
    Light Years isn't even the best single off of that album. I'd give that to Nothing as it Seems, even though that's too much fiber for the average listener.
    Light Years is a song I *really* tried to connect to. It seemed perfect. The story in the lyrics matched up pretty tightly with my life. I had lost my sister several months prior to the album being released. The "first person" lyrics described me almost to a T, the "second person" lyrics described my sister, and the song described my relationship with her.
    Still... the connection was never there. I felt like it's a song I might have written in high school if given an assignment to write a poem/song about something I'd never really experienced. It just never, ever clicked for me as much as I wanted it to. And I tried to make it work...
    I'm not saying there's not real pain that inspired the song, or a real story about a real person... I'm just saying... it feels detached to me, like it was an assignment, and I could never fully feel it.
    At this moment in time, I'd agree with you. It's pretty damn amazing. I only "discovered" how great it was about a month ago, and now I'm obsessed...
    Her name was Diane Muus (she died in 1997, age of 33 ) , i think he mentioned her at Pinkpop 2000.
    I can't really decide whether I think you're right because I can't split Light Years/Oceans/ Nothing As It Seems for best single but if you think it is then it clearly is!! :D Beautiful song!!
    Immortality is their best single, followed by Nothing As It Seems. Light Years may just make the top ten...
    “Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)
    "...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    I think Just Breathe is their best single ever, partly because it's a great song, partly because I totally didn't expect them to release it as a single because to me it seemed too radio-friendly. Second to Just Breathe I would say the next best single is probably Who You Are, although that has jumped up my list recently. I am also a fan of Given to Fly, of course.
    I think Light Years is up there though, maybe 3 or 4. It's funny.... I loved that song so much when it came out. But, I think that entire album seems forced... fgh fgh fgh. If I could have had input in that song I would've released it as the first single from Binaural and I would have asked them to cut the third chorus. Other than that it's great... and IMHO it's much better than Puzzles and Games. Insignificance should have been a single from that CD too.
