Best concert of 2009

Was not Pearl Jam! (and it was my first time seeing them)

I loved Pearl Jam in Chicago, and I had the time of my life, but my favorite concert of 2009 was Over the Rhine in the Taft Theater on Dec 19th 2009. I think it was because I took my girl friend, and the show its self was intimate, and very personal. Don't know if you guys know of these guys, but you really should.

Over the Rhine..

The Taft Theater was beautiful, and they sold it out! (for like the 10th year in a row or something like that)

They are an amazing band, one of the true gems of Cincy. We went to a very nice restaurant called Trattoria Roma's that was just perfect. It's a beautiful city.

Pretty sure it's an original, I'll have to double check. It's on their album entitled "The Trumpet Child". (Stellar CD)

Well, Walnut and around 5th street was pretty nice. :P

  • They were on form this summer. This made my 2009 top gig when the crowd surprised the band when the singing kept going during midlife crisis

Pearl Jam and NIN gave them a run for their money though but in different ways

I think PJ in Chicago is unbeatable, but I was looking forward to the Black Crowes the most and they lived up to my expectations.

    PJ Chicago 1
Black Crowes/The Pageant, St Louis- AMAZING sound quality, great rock band
    Chicago 2
The Mars Volta/The Pageant, St Louis- great venue, great band, great show......They cut back the intensity of their live show and for my taste that was a good thing

NIN second L.A. farewell show at The Fonda Theatre was great!

So was Leonard Cohen at the Nokia Theatre, and Paul McCartney at Coachella.

PJ LA 2 was the best of the 4 L.A. shows.

    1. 'Them Crooked Vultures' at the Roxy - It was the first time i heard any of the songs other than 'New Fang'. I willfully abstained from listening to anything and bought the CD at the gig. Kicked my ears... in the balls.
    2. Pearl Jam in Los Angeles - Night One. I don't care about setlists anymore... and I never cared about how the other concertgoers express their excitement. I was just happy to see the band again... and those beautiful faces I only get to see at Pearl Jam concerts. Plus, Eddie tossed me another tamborine (which I gave to my friend) and we got to see a drunken David Putty.
    3. Chris Cornell at the Hotel Cafe - Say what you will about Chris Cornell... the fucking guy can sing. A rare Chris and guitar acoustic set that opened with 'Call Me a Dog', covered songs from 'Soundgarden', 'Temple Of The Dog', 'Audioslave' and his solo career. I was grateful to be one the the 189 in attendance that evening that included 3 people I love being around.
    4. Pearl Jam in San Diego - Again... everyone I love seeing was there... except Dani, who was sorely missed. Such a great time before, during and after the gig. One of those days I just never wished would end.
    5. Eddie Vedder on Maui - Eddie Vedder... in Hawaii... on Maui. With some great friends, great food and alcohol... well, that says it all. Did I mention... we were on Maui?

    A good year for shows.

    The best were:
    Bruce - Hyde Park
    PJ - The O2 Arena
Kings of Leon - O2 Arena
    Joe Bonamassa - Southampton

But the best of the lot were Oasis at Wembley
