    Cicadas


    They only come out here every 7 years. They are very loud. Kinda like crickets, but tons of them being loud at the same time. They die very quickly after emerging. Like, they live in the ground the entire 7 years, just to surface and die.
    Save room for dessert!

    Thats the prettiest cicada I've ever seen. We have a good crop of Cicadas every year but we also have Cicada Killer Bees here in Georgia to prey on them. Cicadas are very bad for hardwood trees. The female bees sting to paralyze then fly with the cicada to their in ground nest where they lay eggs on it.
    These are very scary bees, the females the size of my thumb. Theory is their sting is mild but I don't want to test that! 800202877482607f06o_2.jpg

    No snow still, mountains are green... Grouse is looking pretty dry. Good thing I held off on the season pass for Cypress this year... we all know how that ones turned out!

    2nd day in a row absolutely pouring all day, the creek at the bottom of the street overflowed late this arvo. All throughout qld there are records falling with the rain. Birdsville, highest rainfall EVER RECORDED, Roma and Charleville flooded and people being evacuated. Supposed to be continue raining all week and through the weekend, but easing off tomorrow. So not as heavy, but still much needed.

    But perfect sleeping weather that's for sure!
