So I got what I thought was the most current reissue of Let it Bleed (used of course) from Amazon.com but it turns out its an edition from ABKCO records that was released in '02. Does anyone know if there's a huge difference between this and the 2009 versions that were released in terms of quality?

  • "Let It Bleed" was not remastered in 2009...only the albums post-Sticky Fingers were.
  • hi , you should have the latest remaster of let it bleed right there in your hand !! only post stick fingers albums were released in 2009 as above post . basically the later albums were released on virgin label & req remastering now , the earlier releases were from abko & were all remastered in or before 2002 . if it says dsd remastered on the front , then you have the latest remaster !! simples !! for what it's worth i think the job abko did with the dsd remasters is a little better than the virgin remasters as well . :P
still im' waiting for the exile on main street remaster now !! hurry up already , damn !! 8-)

Are the 2002 remasters significantly better than whatever came before? I got all mine in the 90s. I doubt I'd upgrade anyway - just wondering.

INFINITELY better. The old Stones CD's were amongst the worst ever released...they sounded like they were mastered from 8-track cartridges. The 2002 'Beggars Banquet' sounds like a completely different album.

Well then. Maybe I'll look into replacing Beggars Banquet & Sticky Fingers...

Sticky Fingers & everything after it are fine. The 60's albums are the massively improved ones.
  • For anyone who actually gives a shit about SACDs...

The 2002 ABKCO remasters were first released as Hybrid SACDs that sound fantastic. These are long out of print. These remasters are still available now as regular redbook CDs.

The Hybrid SACDs and regular redbook CDs share the same catalog numbers and UPCs. So if you are ordering online, the only way to know if the version you are buying is based on the packaging. Digipaks equal Hybrid SACDs while plastic jewel cases equal redbook CDs.

This is true of all remastered ABKCO albums initially released as Hybrid SACDs (Herman's Hermits, Sam Cooke, etc.).
