So the last few years, my favorite types of movies have been sort of the indie emotional ones, like Me and You and Everyone We Know, or WInter Passing, The Mudge Boy, In the Bedroom, Garden State, The Squid and The Whale, Margot at the Wedding, Junebug, Rocket Science, Life as a House, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. I know the type of movie when I see it.

Anyways, I have a desire to write my own either book, or screenplay or something. I know I want to write like an emotional drama/coming of age tale. But I dont know how to go about it per say. Where do I start. I have long been a writer in that I express myself better through writing than through verbal speaking. Yet I have had a very rough patch the past year or two, writers block. Unable to write.

Any tips on what I should do? How do I go about writing this indie/emotional/drama coming of age tale? How do I take these emotions, feelings and ideas that are swirling in my head and translate it into something tangible and real?

I have this mental image, pictures in my mind of a time, where I was happy. Where I wasnt weighed down by the burdens and stresses of adulthood and didnt worry every minute about how I still havent found myself. This mental image, is a time period, a physical location, a feeling, everything. How do I let these images loose?

Practice writing every day. You'll get better at it OR you might find that you don't really want to do it. Either way you'll get unstuck.

Remember, you don't have to start a writing project at the begining. Start with a pivotal scene you have imagined that you can't wait to write, and if you find that comes together really well, it will give you more confidence to hammer out the rest. How did they get to that point? What's gonna happen next? Etc.

great advice, I do this all the time.

I also come up with backstorys for characters, things that would never make it into the actual story, but it helps me find the character. If you know the character inside and out, writing about them becomes much easier.

Extracurricular activities (if you get my drift) reduces inhibitions - can move a writers block
    also always
keep a journal next to the bed for help from your dream state. The mind has limitless potential.
