For MOST shows (including Arena shows).
Front row centre: 1 in the afternoon
Front Row: 5
Within the first 5 rows: Doors
Again, this is a general rule, but I've never got screwed by it.
The last show I saw a crowd surfer at was Lolla in 2007, and they we're all meatheads. I think you should be cool at this smaller show. I always used my small size to get where I wanted. If I wasn't up front right away I'd kind of mosh around and wait until someone ahead of me was off balance, then when they're leaning one way. Jam yourself into the spot. Plus you're a young girl, they'll let you stay.

I've done this way too many times.
Don't waste time moving forward, if you have to make it through a crowd, be polite and try and squeeze through (luckily, I'm rail thin so this isn't a problem for me)...make sure you hit the restroom before you get up there...you don't want to lose your spot.
I got up front to see The Black Crowes in November and I made the mistake of drinking two beers before they even got on stage...two songs into their set my bladder was screaming at me...I left and luckily was able to sneak and slide my way back up to my girlfriend and two friends...occasionally you run into the asshole who doesn't want anybody to get in front of him/her. Fuck them, it's a rock concert.

I wouldn't be so sure there won't be crowd surfing. I still see it all the time at shows.
I am thin and tall so I should be able to squeeze through but were gonna be there 3 or 4 to get front row, i can't really run up cuz i had knee surgery but my friend is gonna run up hes pretty fast and he'll save me and my other friend a spot so hopefully that will work

hmm that happened to me at a Killers concert once, it was like 10 rows back, I was trying to get to my friend who was a few people away from me and this HUGE fat guy was crushing me so I couldn't get through, but my friend managed to pull me through to her, that guy was sucha dick.
What should i do about those people? It can be hard to get by them if you don't have your friend helping you through

Just tell them to get the hell over it, and you're wanting to enjoy the show just like he/she is...and by being an asshole, they're ruining the experience for both parties. LIke I said, it's a rock concert...people push and shove, and some people have a hard time tolerating it but that is their problem. If they've got a problem with peopel trying to squeeze by you to get a better view, then perhaps they should think twice before spending money on a ticket for general admission...it comes with the territory.
All in all though, just try to ignore them and push your way through...if said person tries to get physical, there are enough people around that will be noticing the situation and step in to help out...no one likes an asshole amongst the crowd.
