So has anyone gotten into the Post Rock sub-genre yet? There are some great bands out there, and I have just bought a few of their CDS but I am finding it hard to differentiate between the bands when I hear a song. Is it just me? Like I said, some great stuff, but they seem to blend together.

Some of the good one's I've found:
Glaciers
Gifts From Enola
If These Trees Could Talk
You.May.Die.In.The.Desert
Explosions in The Sky
Mogwai

Anyway, just seeing if anyone else is getting into this new sub-genre. It's great for chilling out at home or at work (No naughty lyrics). ;)
If there were no Angels would there be no sin?

  • definitely a big fan of this genre. Sigur Ros is pretty mindblowing. Had tickets to see them last year, one of those shows I missed that will haunt me! () by Sigur Ros is one of the best albums ever made, and that Heima documentary is one of the finest pieces of art I have ever seen.

Explosions in the Sky-they are on another level. Once read a review where it was suggested if you listen to these guys, no matter what you do, while you are listening, it makes that act feel transcendendent. The critic speciifcally talked about how he was alking his dog, had his ipod and was listening to Explosions. Hard to explain the impact of this band. Its like listening to this band, makes everything else seem so meaningless and small. Another one of those bands, I could have seen live, and havent yet, and it haunts me.

Mogwai-Cody is one of my favorite songs of all time.

All these bands, are more about feeling than anything. They are a rarity in modern music. They dont make utter crap for consumption. They make works of art, that are intended to get the listener to feel something
  • listening to Explosions in the Sky for the first time right now song it titled "first breath after coma"

I was looking for this thread earlier but didn't want to start a new one. Maybe we shoud change the name of this thread to "Official" and keep it as such.

OP, you named some great bands there! Gifts, You.May.Die, ITTCT. They're all on the same label. http://www.mylenesheath.com. Also, check out Beware of Safety on that label (it's my band ;) ) Then of course there's Mogwaii and EITS who both rule

The Silent Ballet (http://www.thesilentballet.com) just posted the top 50 albums of the year and top 50 Artists of the decade in the genre. Granted, it's all based on opinions of their writers but it is atleast a nice resource to check out some new music in the instrumental genre.

    My favorties of the year:
Do Make Say Think - Other Truths - briliiant!
Gifts From Enola - From Fathoms
The Mercury Program - Chez Viking
    Blueneck - The Fallen Host
Tim Hecker - An Imaginary Country

Got to see Te a few years back on a US tour. That was an excellent show in a small venue. Think they've pretty much called it a career. I believe the main dude has been focusing more on his label, etc.

Explosions is like a sonic attack on your senses in concert. GO SEE THEM!!!

They can go from pin drop silence to full fledged decibel onslaught..unreal.

I wish they played longer, but they play so friggin hard I can see why the show is only 1.5 hours or so
