    Not playing MSG
  • How 'bout the Devo gig in Phila?
  • I think charging more to fans through the fan club for Backspacer than those who bought it from Target. Also giving Target the added bonus of two entire concert downloads. Simply ridiculous. All this from the band who fought Ticketmaster for almost a year on behalf of their fans. This was my biggest surprise and has forever altered my opinion of PJ

I agree...when they came out in the yellow suits with red hats I was cracking up and then Eddie said, "CRACK THAT WHIP!" Great stuff.
"I'll ride the wave, where it takes me..."

"I know I was born and I know that I'll die, the in between is mine..."

Not really surpising at all. We already knew before the show they were planning on doing this. Also, Bugs wasnt really a surprise either after the first show when Ed said they are gonna try to play the entire catalog... Id say Target deal shocked me as well as Cornell at La 3. Had no fucking idea that was coming...

No Philly boots as the year comes to a close!!!
  • How much I really love the new record....
When I first heard it, I thought...this is S/T part II

    ...and it's not!

S/T is the only record I truly don't love front to back.

without a doubt biggest surprise happiest moment in a most trying 2009 was getting the tix that read sec 102 row 2 seat 10 & 11 - absolutely surreal- like living a dream
  • Bugs/Sweet Lew/Out Of My Mind

I would not call Backspacer being a kick-ass record a surprise. I have come to expect nothing less from this band!!
Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?

Purchasing PJ albums at retail has long been less expensive than buying through the fan club.
  • The biggest surprise had to be "The Fixer." What a catchy yet poppy song that actually got some good radio play. Who would've expected its upbeat optimism after the last few records?

Personally, it was seeing "Hold On" at Philly 3. I wouldn't have expected it in a million years.

Yeah, probably Bugs in Philadelphia. Although there were hints of it being played..
Other than that I was really surprised we did Golden Gate Park with no reported cases of food poisoning

  • Philly night 2 10/28 Push me pull me and ledbetter with my 13 year old daughter at her first show ever and she is almost as big a pearl jam fan as me -
philly night 3 10/30 singing In Hiding at the top of my fuckin lungs and still having the rest of the place being tied with me for shear volume and Ed commenting on it - that night was me and my wife at her first show in years and years and her first Pearl Jam show ever - she said all the ones before it and all the ones she may attend in the future will seem dull in comparison

Biggest surprise? Is that somehow, Pearl Jam's management proceeds to make worse and worse decisions with every action. From raising ticket prices on a constant basis, to SHIPPING pre-ordered vinyls AFTER their official release date through their fan club, to blatantly lying to the fans about what's included through the Ten Club version of Backspacer on CD, to overselling Ten Club tickets in Chicago, to (in my opinion) illogically planned tours - the biggest surprise to me is that in 2009 for the first time since I fell in love with these guys, besides playing their asses off, and recording a wicked album - the overall taste that this band left in my mouth was sour.
That said, tomorrow a new decade begins, and I hope the band rights their wrongs, and starts to put some real effort into organization of important matters, work on their timing, and hopefully put some money towards carbon offsetting of their tours.

look at ten clubs track record...this isn't a surprise because things like this are expected from them.

Ted Leo not making it to Toronto...PJ opens for PJ. Even if I missed it before gettingiracled into the show.. Pretty sweet.
The return of Red Mosquito in a big way.
Got Some turning into one of the highlights of the show. Hahaha :-)
Philly 3 and 4 were the most amazing experiences of my life.
How bout NO special guests at Philly 4 after all the speculation!!

Can't wait to see what they surprise us with next year.

    Maybe.

I would say the target deal was surprising.
That was the big shocker. It broke my heart that the ultimate non-corporate band jumped on the corporate bandwagon.

At the same time, on a happy note, finding out I won the lottery front row, was the first time I've EVER won anything, and I counldn't have won anything better than front row for Pearl Jam.

I'm guessing that sony deal 20 years ago that made them filthy rich didn't break your heart right.

Target was the only retail store that would give pj the rights to offer the cd and vinyl in the goods section and indie stores. You probably woulda bitched and complained had pj not offered the cd and vinyl in the goods section and indie stores. Am I right or not.

Bugs on Halloween was good. Also PJ playing Hunger Strike w/Chris Cornell in the begining of Oct. was cool.

Not the Target deal, because to me it made sense for a band without a distribution deal.

But the Target commercial where a supposed Pearl Jam "fan" gets stamped on the hand with a Target logo... That was surprising.
