Do you create lists of books that you would like to read? I create one every couple years. I look at different sources and reviews for inspiration. Then if I need something to read, and I don't have an impulsive idea of what to borrow of buy, I refer to my list. This is the new list that should last me a couple years:
1. Netherland by Joseph O’Neill
2. Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri
3. The World is What it is The Authorized Biography of V.S. Naipaul
4. Man Gone Down by Michael Thomas
5. Then We Came to the End by Joshua Ferris
6. Tree of Smoke by Denis Johnson
7. Imperial Life in the Emerald City Inside Iraq’s Green Zone by Rajiv Chandrasekaran
8. Little Heatherns Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression.
By Mildred Armstrong Kalish
9. The Nine Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court. By Jeffrey Toobin
10. The Ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh A Woman in World History. By Linda Colley.
11. The Rest is Noise Listening to the Twentieth Century. By Alex Ross.
12. The Collected Stories of Amy Hempel
13. The Forever War (Vintage) Dexter Filkins
14. Lush Life: A Novel Richard Price
15. In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto Michael Pollan
16. 2666: A Novel Roberto Bolano
17. The Boat: Stories (Vintage) Nam Le
18. The White Tiger: A Novel (Man Booker Prize) by Aravind Adiga
19. The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family Annette Gordon-Reed
20. Olive Kitteridge: Fiction Elizabeth Strout
21. Hot, Flat, and Crowded 2.0: Why We Need a Green Revolution--and How It Can Renew America
Thomas L. Friedman
22. Black Flies: A Novel Shannon Burke
23. Downtown Owl: A Novel Chuck Klosterman
24. The Story of a Marriage: A Novel Andrew Sean Greer
25. Ms. Hempel Chronicles Sarah Shun-lien Bynum

What is on your list?

I read that list and then surmised that you are female. I then read your name and saw I was right. I also don't know why I think that's particularly relevant. :?

Right now I'm reading John Lennon: The Life. I'm thinking of reading The Proud Highway by Hunter S. Thompson after the Lennon book. I might also look at the philosophical stuff LOST references in the show with characters and stuff.

Don't really have a "list" but I am reading War and Peace right now. I have been meaning to read it for a long time.

Wow... I thought I was fairly well read and have only one of those books under my belt; #21. I would suggest you take it off your list, but hey, there must be some reason Friedman is popular. :? Too many stats and over-simplification in my opinion. (yeah I realize that is sort of a paradox)

I recently read The Hero With a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. Now the top of my queue is the rest of his books.

I've never read Kerouac or Burroughs so that would be next.

Then I have 2 or 3 by Robert Anton Wilson to finish his complete set.

I make a list every so often and then I keep adding books as I learn about them. Usually it only has about 5-6 books but right now I'm in the process of creating a new list which will probably have about 15-20. I'd post it if it were ready. But at the top is Forward From this Moment by Leonard Pitts, Jr., which I got for Christmas.
