Hi all, any input / opinions here would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to get an mp3 player, mostly so I can have all of my PJ boots mobile. but ideally I'd like to have ALL of my music sources in one mobile player.

This is what I would like to be able to do:

1) have all of my mp3 PJ show boots (I have approx 80) on it - what kind of storage would I need for that?
2) have all of my physical CDs (approx 100) (ripped to mp3) on it - again what kind of storage?
3) play my custom Slacker radio station (I made one station of all of the bands I like that I never bought CDs for)
4) play through my car's aux input

is there a player on the market that fits this bill? PS if a good fit is a phone that's fine, I need a new one.

any suggestions/help...thanks a million. I have tried to do some research but sorting through all of the options is too time consuming...figured maybe there were some folks here who had an idea through experience.

  • IMO the way to go is an Ipod, its the #1 brand for a reason. You can get an iTouch (32gb) for about $300, not sure if 32 will be enough for what you've described tho. They mite also come in 64 but if not you can get a an iPod Classic for 80 or 160 gigs. Classics wont play custom radio stations tho (at least i dont think they do). Hope this helps!

I agree. With the zine you get more space for your buck. I had an original zune when they first came out and it worked well. Check cnet.com or some other tech review websites.

Check (all of the) Creative players! The new player Zen X-Fi2 (8,16 and 36 gb) plays even flac! And you can use microSD cards in every size to extend it. I own the X-Fi2 and i am very happy with it. (stuffed with lots of music!!!!) Its half the price of the ipod thing, but all i know say its equal if not better, and so do I. its quite good! And even the in-ears delivered with it tops the ipod by faaaaar 8-)
(though i dont know if Creative is available everywhere...)

I'm an iPhone user/fan myself - but for what you need pretty much any mp3 player 32GB or over will do the job.
However, I agree with the choice of an iPod touch - that way you can download the Pearl Jam app that I'm using to reply to you atm ;)

I agree with this one. Here's what you have to decide, do you want to be able to sync it with any pc? or do you have a mac? Do you have time to sync EVERY time you add music?

Zune - definitely more size for your buck. 120GB is under $250 but, you do have to sync it when you add music and that takes time.

Ipod - you can only sync with ONE pc, or mac and you have to sync every time. not as long to sync as the zune but limitations suck.

Creative Zens.....expensive but you can drag and drop music to it from ANY pc. NO SYNC, no problem, USB port? You're ready to go.

I've had all three and so far Creative Zens are the BEST.

If this is too late, what did you buy?

  • Get the 160g ipod you can still find them out there, it will hold 148g of music.

    Ipod.

You don't have to sync everytime. You don't have to sync at all if you don't want to, there's a setting for automatic or manual. You can use it on several computers if you want.

iPod touch is a LOT of technology for the money. A great little iPod, a very capable PDA, and a nifty internet device all in one - if you have wifi where you live I would DEFINITELY recommend it. I've had mine about a year and love the freaking thing. I'm even seriously considering AT&T's inferior network and an iPhone when my verizon contract expires in March. iTouch is the way to go...

Right, you have to sync when you add music. It's a hassle to have to sync to add or take anything away and have to take up hard drive space for a syncable library. drag and drop, no extra hard drive space, on bother syncing.

I'm with those that say the creative Zen. I love mine. Very versatile - any format of music, drag & drop, etc. Also has radio, video, etc.

I'm not an iPod fan at all.

Oh and Creative players have a mic. I wasn't missing the tom petty cover that the Gorge boot was!!! I love the recording feature.
