Rocco DeLuca and the Burden

Anybody familiar with this band?

They're mostly just known for being in that documentary with Kiefer Sutherland (and for the minor hit "Colorful"), but they're very talented. DeLuca's got a very unique voice and he's a great guitar player, playing a Dobro for that gritty blues feel, particularly on their first record, I Trust You to Kill Me. Their second record, Mercy, is more subdued and sounds more like a singer-songwriter effort, but the production is top-notch (done by Daniel Lanois, who definitely knows how to add the right amount of space and atmosphere to recordings).

loved the first album, hoped the second one would be better, but it is still a pretty good record... Seen them in concert in a small venue in St Pete, last year or maybe earlier this year and they put on a great show...I would recommend them to anyone to check out live...
  • Saw them in atlanta a couple times after the first record came out. They put on a really great show and his voice is even better live if you can believe that- like jeff buckley reincarnated.

I don't doubt you, but I'm just going to point out the obvious; that is a bold, bold statement. :)

It may be a very bold statement but I have to say it's not far off the truth. Of all of the singers that have been compared to Jeff Buckley since he died, Rocco is probably the closest you'll find. He just pours so much emotion into every single note live that sometimes it's hard not to feel like you're intruding on something really personal. I saw them in Cardiff a few years back and his guitar playing is pretty special too.

I'm definitely going to have to check this guy out...I've heard his name plenty of times but never really made the effort to listen to him, now I will. Thanks! 8-)

My favorite song by him is either "Dope," "Soul," or "When You Learn to Sing".
  • Great band. I love the "I Trust You To Kill Me" album. "Swing Low" is such a badass tune, and "Colorful" is one of the better pop songs in a long long time. "Mercy" is a good album as well. I REALLY like "Bright Lights (Losing Control)"
