How is it affecting you? personally? Have you had to cut back on spending during the holidays? Have you cut down spending in general? Not going out to eat as much? Not going to as many
I think back to our grandparents, and what they had to endure as kids growing up in the depression, and how it really affected their entire lives, even today. My grandma was a rug hooker, making rugs and all that, and she used to save every last piece of thread and use it all. My grandfather is the same way, he uses everything, doesnt waste anything. Even today, he doesnt like spending much money, not because he is really a miser, but more because he grew up in the depression. Contrast that to our parents generation, a time of a booming economy, a war economy, and a booming population growth.
Its actually been kind of stunning to see all these stores closing in my hometown. Eugene has never been a huge economy, never a huge tourist spot, but it hasnt been Flint Michigan either. Two or three of the Hollywood video chains closed, several Blockbusters closed as well. A bar closed.
Have you all had to sell some things? Cars? houses? stuff on ebay? to make things meet?
I really dont see this recession as temporary. I have looked at it, since the start, as the beginning of the end so to speak. I dont see things getting better. And they havent. We have heard for years now, that "next month" things will get better. They never do.
How bad do you all think its gonna get? Because its pretty damn bad right now.
