I require the following:

Top 3 things to do
Best place to get breakfast
Best place to get an epic sandwich
Best place for some nice beers

Also, I'd quite like to catch a basketball game over there, and I see the knicks are playing when i am over there (2nd-9th jan)- would i be able to get tickets on the night?

the website is confusing as there are about a million different tickets to buy!

THANK YOU!

  • My favorite Breakfast if you are into bagels and lox especially - Barney Greengrass on Amsterdam and W 86th
Sandwiches - Either 2nd Avenue Deli, Carnegie Deli or Fox's
Nice Beers - Peculiar Pub on Bleeker in the city has over 500 beers (18 on tap) available. For an interesting an fun time Mc Sorley's Ale House has either light or dark beer and you can spend a whole day in there.

Knicks are looking better these days and tickets should be available but might sell out... I would get them in advance...

Take a 7 year old (you can borrow mine) to help you get a glimpse of his shapes and colors through their eyes, it was quite awesome and sometimes comical.

thanks for the offer, but i think i'll pass on that. ;)
i've "seen" art thru the eyes of many a child, for 10 years in fact - all ages....and it is pretty damn interesting their thoughts on it. that said, i have zero desire to take a 7 year old to a museum with me or, well really....anywhere. :? hahaha. nice try for a free babysitter tho.

what if they play 2 nights (which is much more likely)...then they get to quarrel over who gets first night and then last night...and which is "better".....

    1. breakfast-well if its bagels you want, Ess-a-bagel-for bagels and lox (51st and 3rd).
    2. Epic sandwich-really only one choice-Katz's on the lower east side-simple pastrami on rye with mustard, not huge, but the best pastrami and corned beef on the planet. (Stage, carnegie and all the others just make em really big-the combos at those places are good, but you really cant beat the simplicity of Katz's).
    3. Nice beers? Truly unique experience-try burp castle on 7th st (I think) in the east village-otherwise, I suggest rattle and hum (33rd between madison and fifth) tremendous selection of beers and not too crowded.
    4. Knicks-just go to the box office the day of the game ask whats available-they rarely sell out these days (by the way rattle and hum is a great place to go before the game-its close-food is so so, but decent enough).

I think you mean Stout. Scruffy Duffy's is on eighth avenue near the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
