    1. Why is this important?
    2. Why is it on the Porch?
    Go Get 'Em Tigers!
  • good luck my UK brothers!!...smashing Simon and using Rage to do it would be soooo sweet!!! 8-)
  • I find all this Rage for number 1 business childish.
It's like a 5 year old who wants to take his 2 year old brother's favourite toy away from just becuase he has it.

Seriously christmas number 1 is for the manufactured pop crap that people w/ no taste in music needs to be told to rush out and buy. Why would we want Rage Against The Machine to lower themselves and their music by trying to claim that title? Let the babies have their bottle.

Still - A free gig sounds good eh? :D

Yeah because all the threads on the Porch are so important....like these threads:

I find it odd that a band called Rage Against The Machine would care enough to even do this, regardless of who it's knockin outta the top slot.

Why not just play a free show in the UK anyway?

It's a publicity stunt setup to make Rage look like heroes. To what? Only they know.

Would care enough to even do what? It's a facebook group set up by 2 people jon morter and tracy morter. Rage had nothing to do with this. Rage heard about it and said it was "a little dose of anarchy" and has pledged his profits to a uk charity to help kids with music. Also you'd want to attend a free show in the uk but not contribute to this even though we are raising money for shelter at the same time?
You're not the type of people i am looking for.

Rage is alright, but why are they back on tour without any new material or even thinking about writing any new material (what Tom & Zack said many times) & pushing of all songs "Killing In The Name Of" from their self titled record that came out back in '92? Number 1? Kapasa?

With all the shit happening today in the world, why aren't they bringing back songs like this? :?

Just confirmed. RAGE ARE NUMBER ONE IN THE UK!

Outstanding news. The boring pop monopoly has been crumbled!

Cowell wins whatever though - he owns both artists record companies. But nice nevertheless!
    :D Rock on!!!! :D
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

Cowell doesn't own Sony. He just works for them and that's the label that puts out all of his lame pop records.

  • what makes you different from SIMON COWELL if you are seeking number 1 just like him. eddie vedder had a great quote when talking to bono. bono said "our songs are like racehorses, we feed them, train them and when we release them we want them to win the race and be number 1". eddie vedder then said "ya our songs are like horses too, we feed them and we train them but when we release them we want them to run free in a field".

In the pre-download days when physical singles were still selling well, having the "Christmas Number One" used to mean something, it was seen as a really big deal for the bands, the record companies and the fans. Now every year the X Factor winner releases a shitty karaoke cover song in the week before Christmas and it gets to number one because the British public are too brainwashed by reality TV to know any better. They actually think this kind of shite is the future of music.

What's happened here is two fans who have had enough of this started a Facebook group to see if there were enough people that felt the same way to make a diffrence. It's not about Rage chasing a number one single, they knew nothing about this until recently. It didn't even need to be Rage, fans almost got Jeff Buckley to number one last year instead of the X Factor Hallelujah. Even Paul McCartney, who sang at the final, said it would be cool if Rage won. It's just a bit of fun that won't do any harm. Rage won't win any new fans, X Factor will still be back next year, the only real loser is the X Factor kid who will be forgotten about as soon as Cowell has made his money out of him.

I personally would have preferred a "Bugs live in Philly for Christmas Number One" campaign but we need the Philly boots for that... :D

Well I stated a pet peeve of mine but I surly didn't tell him he shouldn't use his girly smiley faces. I just suggested saying it with conviction and back it up rather than just say "Rage sucks" with the rolling eyes. And either way, you're still a dork who tells people who use the search engine.

Anyway back to topic, I see Rage has won this chart battle which is cool. And when reading the article I saw that a similar battle went down in 1998 when people tried to get Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls to #1 over the Spice Girls which is pretty sweet.

    Someone explain this to me...

    A) how will anyone get a ticket?
    B) how will they stop the touting on these tickets...
  • so is having a number 1 song at xmas better than having one in june? does that make the song better? if it only made it to number 2 would that mean it wasn't good? i'm confused here as to why anyone would care the chart position. do you get a percentage of the sales?

It's just a quirky British tradition - loads of artists will release charity singles or novelty singles at Christmas to get maximum sales. That was until X factor came along, and it was completely predictable that anyone who won the show would get to number one no matter what the song was, purely off the back of the shows' success. Plus a lot of people bet on the christmas number one.
