itunes question

is there a way to get itunes to automatically delete the original file after it transfers it to the itunes folder? i like the idea that itunes keeps all the songs in the same main folder but i really dont need two copies of every song.

    edit>preferences

    click the Advanced tab

    if the 'Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library' is checked, uncheck it

    i want them in the itunes folder though, i like how itunes collects all the files in the same general area. i just dont see the need to keep the original files scattered all over the place still.

    I'm afraid there's no straightforward way to do that - you'll just have to delete every extra song manually. Do the duplicate songs still show up in iTunes?

    another quick question.

    i was sure that awhile ago when i used itunes before i uninstalled it, it would convert files to mp3 automatically now all it does is add .wav files and the like as is. maybe im remembering wrong but is there an option to get it to convert files when imported?

    I assume that's what happens when you import a CD? You'd have to check your Import Settings (open Preferences by pressing Ctrl + , ) and make sure that it's set to MP3 and at the bitrate you prefer.

    no when i import cds it converts them to mp3. but when i decode flacs and then go to add folder/file to just keeps them as wav files even though it imports them to the itunes media folder.

    iTunes does not support the FLAC format. You'd have to use a different program (such as Exact Audio Copy) to convert the FLAC files into MP3, then import the MP3 files into iTunes.

    edit>preferences>general tab>import settings

    change 'import using' to what file type you want
