I said in an earlier post about boots that on the London 02 show it sounds like there's a piano getting dragged down the stairs. Sorry Boom but I agree on this one. Stay back and have a big fatty and listen to the magic

There are some songs that sound great with keys added live... but others are definitely knocked down a few notches by them. Release falls into the latter category.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

I hate Boom on Alive. Adding organ fills to a song like Alive is like adding organ fills to a song like Black Dog or something like that.
I agree. The version from the o2 sounds very poor because of the piano. Does nothing for the song. There is a alot of songs that he should not play on.
Normally I'm cool with all Boom does. But listening to the 09 boots he ruins Amongst the Waves. All I can here is the organ and it almost overpowers Eddie. I agree he is a must on Love Reign oer Me, Love Boat Captain and others. But just ease off some of the songs. Just sayin.
He sounds like he just hitting the keys for fun on Release from the London show. I totally agree there is no need to put keys or organs on the early stuff, especially porch.

I honestly don't think it's up to Boom as to what he plays on. I don't think he's proven himself as someone who can just come and go on songs as HE feels fit. I'd be SHOCKED if it's not made clear to him what songs to join them on each night.

Oh yeah totally. Boom knows what songs he has to be out for just like the roadies know which guitars the band need for each song.
PJ needs to have an "opt in" policy with Boom, not an "opt out". E.g. Boom should be "opted-in" to certain specific songs only, as opposed to Boom should play on all songs except the ones he's "opted-out" from. Basically, less, not more.
It reminds me of 18 years ago I played drums in one of a few bands in high school. One of our friends played bongos... but he really didn't know how to play... but it was bongos, so, whatever. But he played every-freaking-song, which was WAY too much bongo.
...even Christopher Walken would have said "please, no more bongos".
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

he is not a must on LROM. he's horrible on it. sounds nothing like how Brendan O'Brien does it(the right way). i don't mind him that much on porch.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight

Totally agree with you in principle on the out-of-placeness of the organ in Amongst The Waves when played live. But it is definitely not the fault of Mr. Gasper. That right there is a production quirk. I funny enough am 'Boom' in a working Irish PJ tribute, and have previously shreiked upon hearing how loud my organ/ keys came through the mix when I looked at youtube vids. I had to ask our engineer to turn me down a little for future gigs, he said that was a first coming from a musician!
PJ songs are guitar thrashers and soothers, but the keys are vital to a lot of those songs i'd call masterpieces, esp studio versions: LBC, Love Reign, Inside Job, Unthought Known, ATWaves, Come Back, Thumbing My Way) And even before Boom stepped in, the keys were a part of PJ's sound. Kick-ass piano line in Black's chorus and outro, the haunting ambient organ in Indifference, the underlying swinging piano line in Low Light are examples.
BUT LIVE in this particular band of all bands, the keys work best sparingly for most effect. I still love Boom though for many reasons, not the least of which is that he's a master of his craft and has contributed greatly to modern day PJ. Essentially though I love this band so much I'd go to see them even if they had Elton John play with them.
