I posted this question in a thread but it got lost. I'll probably have a hundred questions over the next few months, but I'll just start with one tonight.

Anyone know the Eurail well? If so here's the question I posted in another thread:

'I found this map which shows the cost and time to each city. My question is how does London work? If I have a Eurail pass and want to go from Dublin to Brussles (for example) do I have to pay extra to go through London (if I don't stop in London)? Also, if London isn't included in the Eurail pass do I have to pay only going to London, from London, both or neither?

Hey thanks, but I think the Interrail pass is only for European residences, meanwhile the Eurail pass can be used by anyone. I'm Canadain so I think the best choice is Eurail.

Anyone know how this pass works when going through, to and/or from London?

eurail is not valid on all trains, particularly not on high speed trains like Eurostar, though you get discounts for those.
I believe you buy it for specific zones as well, the more zones (countries) the more it cost. haven't got the details but ireland and UK would be together anyway since the only way to get out of Ireland by rail is through the UK.

I'm not convinced Eurail is worth the money if you don't improvise your travels (be of the cheap rail , or flight, tickets you can get when prebooking ). if you want flexible travels as a tourist then yes, fine, but for a tour with fixed dates, not so good.

It depends on where you want to go. But, if you need to travel through France, try to buy your tickets from 1 to 3 months before departure. That's what we call "Prems".

They're really cheaper than usual. But, be careful: They're not refundable. ;)

    True! Sometimes, that's more interesting.

For instance, when I need to go to London, it's far cheaper using Ryanair than the train AND the Eurostar.

We'll be in Europe for 21-24 days. Arrive in Dublin, see the Belfast gig, then likely 1-2 days of the London fest, and Berlin. Over the next 2 weeks from Berlin to Amersterdam, maybe Belgium, then finish with a week to 10 days in France (say 4 days in Paris). It's a rough sketch, but trying to figure out the best way to travel, or the best options.

i have used eurail before, and it worked well.
with some fast services, particually those in france, there are limited seats for rail passes.
Do your research, find out costs for the legs you plan to do by train. With my eurail pass, i got 2.5 - 3 times the value out of it. Know your break even point for each leg.

rail is a great way to see europe.
