go to new orleans
Last year a group of friends and I went to Jazz Fest for my wife's 30th birthday. We weren't there for a particular band, just to have fun. It ended up being one of the best weekends of my life.
I cannot say how wonderful it was. I got to see Wilco, who happens to be one of my favorite bands, but even outside of them it was unbelievable. I have never been to a better run festival - there were no hassles and everything was easy. You can walk from one side of the other in twenty minutes or so, duck into one of the jazz, gospel, or other tents to hear great music without swarms of people and sit down in the shade. Tickets aren't overpriced. And the shows end early, so after a day in the sun you spend a night out on the town.
Best of all though is the food. I'm a fat guy (as will be evident by the rest of the paragraph) and I had been to New Orleans before, but I've never eaten so well. You can get some amazing stuff for pretty reasonable prices. The list of things I took down in one day include crawfish monica, crawfish bread, crawfish etouffee, boudin balls, a cochon du lait po boy, and natchitoches pies. At one point in the day I was sitting on a blanket with a bunch of friends wolfing down andouille, quail, and pheasant gumbo while listening to Pete Seeger and I realized it didn't get much better.
And oh yeah, Pearl Jam is going to be there this year. If you are thinking about going, make sure you do. I probably can't swing it this year, but will be incredibly jealous of those of you who do.

I'd love to visit N'awlins, and one of my closest cousins lives there (I have like 30 ) , so I'm a little disappointed that I don't have an excuse to go visit.
Still need to get down there sometime soon, without Pearl Jam I guess.

says its a blast
NO is a serious party town
but I am passing on the festival, even if it ends up being the only US show
cant justify the bucks this year
and I can't afford to go
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
if they were to play the same weekend, I might change my mind about it

That's me. Not pulling the trigger on this unless there are no other shows around me.
Sounds awesome though.

I sorry. I'm devestated. I cried when I read the news
I've decided i'm playing the lottery religiously to increase my chace of winning, thus increasing my chance of getting to NOLA...
Desperate?
Yes. And i'm not ashamed of it.
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
