NFL Pregame Shows

After seeing how opinionated everyone is about these sports shows from the Sportsnation thread, I figured this would be interesting to see people's views on the various pregame shows.

I'd like to start it off with by far the WORST pregame football show of them all. Of course, I'm talking about NBC's "Football Night in America" which airs before the Sunday Night Game. Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison. WOW. Just wow. They're like two robots. They short circuit right before commercial break when Dan Patrick turn to talk to the camera and just stare with creepy blank looks on their faces. Harrison can't even put his thoughts into sentences and Dungy, while insightful (I guess), could put you to sleep.

And Keith Olberman is fucking horrible with attempts at humor during the highlights. Always trying to make condescending comments towards players who fuck up but he just ends up reminding you that he's a pansy who could catch a ball if ya threw him one. "It's a Bruce Gradkoski sighting!" "It's a [insert player name] sighting!" Go back to your lame cable "news" show and whine about how O'riley beats you in the ratings with his propaganda.

And on top of all of that: Bob Costas.

Agreed. Olberman is unbearable. The only pregame personality that is worse is Shannon Sharpe on CBS. I can't understand what dude is saying half the time. And Fox isn't much better with Terry Bradshaw spitting all over everyone. Are they TRYING to make us hate football?!?

I agree 100% before I even read your post I was going to say that Dungy looks like a deer in the head lights when Patrick talks right before commercial. that and they really, really need to keep Dungy of the joystick on the video when he is telling us why a play works or does not work. that whole watching the players run back and forth loop he puts it on is fucking annoying !!

as far a olberman goes..... you said it all. he is a true fuckstick that thinks he is funny.

you made the right call, and I challenge anyone to come up with a worse pregame show.
    Peace, Love.

I'm happy someone else has noticed this about Dungy. And check out this vid of Ben Affleck as Olberman on SNL that is pretty funny: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/ ... ann/805561

I barely watch any of these pregame or postgame shows anymore. It's hard to watch when there are 6 guys trying to talk at the same time. I mean, seriously, do they really need 6-8 guys on every one of these studio shows??? It's gotten way out of hand.

Olberman was great as a SportsCenter anchor. I haven't watched too much of the NBC sunday night show, but what I did watch didn't seem too bad. I'm thinking you guys hate Olberman on this program because you hate Olberman, period. Just like if Limbaugh would have been a Monday Night Football analyst I would have hated watching MNF. I like Bob Costas too. So go figure. Best Sunday morning pre-game for me is probably CBS.

about the only thing on the pregame shows I'd watch is Frank Caliendo's segment and even that I can see on you tube.

    I actually don't mind Dungy.
While not the most entertaining guy, he knows his shit!

And I don't watch pre-games for entertainment, I like to see real football discussion...which is hard to come by anymore.

Well everyone has different tastes, I'm amused by them, though the overkill of promoting his show during the 2007 playoffs on TBS kind of taken off the luster somewhat. At this point, it's not must-see TV, if I see them I see them and if not, the world isn't going to end.

while I don't like Olberman, he is really just a small part of why the show blows.

I agree with whoever said Dungy knows his shit, but it's just hard to watch him make a point.

i vote none of the above.

i turn the game on at about 5 minutes pass the hour to miss the pregame and the talking heads in the booth mini pregame. i watch enough sports, i think i can figure things out on my own.

    this applies to all sports

Agreed, the NBC one is really fucking horrible..definitely can't stomach it...usually just catch up on 60 minutes at that time..

  • On Sunday if I have nothing to do I watch the pre-game show on Fox because they mostly talk about the entire NFC being from Philly thats what I want to hear about. While its not the greatest show its better then most of the other stuff thats on during that time.

For the post game I usually DVR the local sports station because they do a whole 2 hours. I am always amused watching our Governor work his second job as a sports analysis. They also do many interview with players that don't do the national interviews so they much more laid back and tend to be much more entertaining to watch.
