at 3am!? wow thats mad.. when did thye come on?
show ended around 4, his xmas jams usually do, they are about 8 hour shows with a ton of bands playing, but you also have to take time to switch sets between bands which can take some time. The Mule portion of the show is usually filled with guests and lots of cover songs
last year was the grunge fest no?
I think that was the halloween show last year. this year was the stones set
Everybody should listen to moe.
they came on around 2am....it started at 7 with the xmas jam band opening, then the guy from collective soul, then the guy that wrote 'hard to handle', william bell, ani difranco, moe., counting crows, then gov't mule...warren haynes played at least 1 song with everyone except for the collective soul guy (forgot his name, Ed something, i think?)
the counting crows were a little disappointing but moe. was phenomenal!
dan auerbach was supposed to play, too, but ended up cancelling, not sure why
warren haynes puts it on every year at the asheville civic center (where pj played on the vfc tour), it's a benefit for habitat for humanity and is cheaper than a PJ ticket!

Plane Crash is one of my favorite songs to just sing along to...
But, yeah, check out their live stuff. They're a jam band; studio stuff is never their best.

He used to be a member here but isn't anymore so he asked me to post this response for him:
moe. is the shit, they've been my favorite band for about 10 years now. i've seen them live 56 times and they get better each time. my suggestions to you are get live albums first. start with the warts and all series. there are 6, i believe. full shows, 3 discs each volume, and they're usually pretty cheap (under $20 each). there is also the dr. stan's prescription series, but that series is fairly young with only 2 shows released so far (both coming after the last warts and all volume). 'L' is also a good live release, but it's not a complete show. it's songs taken from different shows over the span of a tour. there's also 'L 3.1', which has 3 songs on it and is an accompanying cd to 'L', but as far as i know, you can only get that at their website. if you want studio albums, i'd go with the conch, wormwood, dither, or no doy. best bet is to actually buy the music at their website (if you're going to buy cd's), you won't find them cheaper anywhere else (unless you count ebay). the website is www.moe.org fyi: with wormwood, all the songs are pretty much segued into the next song, and all the drumming is actually taken from live shows, with guitars and vocals done over in the studio. at some points on wormwood, you can actually hear the crowd very faintly in the background, like in the song 'kids', there's about a 10 second part where all that's being played is the bass and you can absolutely hear cheering in the background.
have fun and please post any updates to your purchases in this thread, i love hearing about people discovering this band.

The best time to Love is Now.
I'm never as good as when you're there.........
thanks! i was kinda leaning more towards a live album since they are a jam band and like the first doors album i bought was a live one, then i got their first album and thought it sounded soooo flat! same with binaural and riot act, i thought the majority of those songs were far better live than on the albums (just listen to can't keep from the dc show in 03 and compare it to riot act!)
i was looking at L because the only song title i know from what they played is captain america, which is on L

the spine of a dog>buster from that cd in insane. If you need any suggestions of audience recordings from archive.org, just ask. Also, even though they are a jamband, their studio cd's are very good, don't ignore them because jambands typically shine in the live setting.
well, i didn't get L. i got warts & all vol 5, dr stan's prescription vol 1 on cd and sticks and stones on vinyl. they are having a sale, most of their cds are only $10, even 3 disc one like the warts & all series and dr stan's

Service fees tacked on to ticket purchases have long been a source of grumbling from concertgoers everywhere. The moe. management team has been listening to fans' feedback, studying past ticket sale statistics and negotiating with Live Nation for several months in an effort to find some sort of middle ground to satisfy fans, the band and the ticketing company. With some fees totaling upwards to a third of the original base ticket price, it's not surprising that many fans choose not to buy advance tickets, waiting instead and taking a chance on buying tickets at the door on the day of the show.
After much debate with Live Nation over this trend, moe. was able to strike a deal with the company for a special promotion on the first day of ticket sales for their Atlanta shows. On January 8th, Live Nation is waiving all service fees on moe. Atlanta tickets. Tell all your friends and make sure as many of you as possible participate. The powers that be at Live Nation will be watching and success with this promotion could mean moe. might have the ability to request similar on-sale deals with other venues across the country.
Bigger bands have taken on the ticketing agencies in the past with some success, and any stride we make as a band toward a more reasonable and fair ticketing experience is an important one. But we cannot do it without our fans. Put it on your calendar, tell your friends, post it on your facebook status but whatever you do MAKE SURE and buy your Tabernacle tickets SERVICE FEE FREE on January 8th. Remember: this is only on the very first day of on-sale. We'd like to thank Live Nation for working with us on this venture.
dont think jam bands are studio bands at all..
moe is an extremely cool band

imo this is a band you need to see live cause listening to them on cd is just not the same
live music is better
I went to the 22d and 3rd moe.down festivals when I was 17/18 but haven't heard them since Wormwood came out, though I'm familiar with all of their music until then.
How do they sound these days?
* Off to youtube to check out a Rebubula for the first time in about 6 or 7 years....
moe.down is much bigger these days, around 6-7k people but still a very small, family feeling. this year was hands down the best i've been to, and might be the best playing i've heard from moe. in years.
Anyone pick up the new album on vinyl? I'm wondering if it's even worth it. From what I'm hearing, the deluxe CD is the way to go because the acoustic versions of pretty much all the songs blow away the electric versions. And it appears that the vinyl (and standard CD) only includes the electric songs.
Also, who's in for the Chicago show next month?
I hit up worcester last month and have snow.down coming up. if I was out in your area I would def. be at the chicago shows, they are playing good lately...they are on jamcruise as we speak
I'm pretty sure Rob was sick because he did not sing at all. And I mean AT ALL. No harmonies or anything. He stood well back of his microphone for most of the show. Al even sang the lead part on "St. Augustine"...
...until the encore when they busted out "Rebubula" with Rob taking his rightful place on lead vocals.
