Black Sabbath - Dio or Ozzy?

I know, I know...it seems like a no contest. I'm a profound Sabbath fan, in fact they were my obsession as a teenager before Pearl Jam fully came into my musical spectrum.
I absolutely love the Ozzy years of Black Sabbath. Their first 4 albums are milestones for rock and are fundamental albums for any fan of rock/metal music.
That being said, even though it was a total change of how Black Sabbath was viewed, Sabbath w/ Dio provided a swift kick to the balls with just three albums (Heaven and Hell, The Mob Rules, and Dehumanizer).
Thoughts?

the music they made 1970-1979 is the best music ever made....everything about it so great.. ozzy's vocals are great, Tony Iommi!!! Geezer!!! frickin' Bill Ward.
You are a complete fool if you say Dio..
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
But, there is no doubt in my mind Ronnie James Dio is a far better singer and the music Dio did with Sabbath is just better.
Oh, and as for this ...
Have you not heard??? They released an album in 2009 (and because Ozzy is being a dick, they have to call themselves Heaven and Hell)
Check this shit out ... they still kick ass ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUs3i9oCs3U

If you listen to fools ... THE MOB RULES!

Again, don't get me wrong, I loved a lot of the Ozzy era stuff ... and I'm not just talking the radio stuff, line me up with some N.I.B., Fairies Wear Boots, Sweet Leaf, or some Snowblind ... I'm one happy fucker ...
I just prefer the albums and the vocals in the Dio era.

What ^he^ said.
Sabbath isn't Sabbath without Ozzy IMO.
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Note, I wouldn't be silly enough to try and slap Ironman or Paranoid up here ... but, N.I.B. just works with Dio.

Nah that sucks... nothing beats the way ozzy does the "your love for mee has goooot to beee reaal...", way more emotional and well you know better!
Those extra yeah's were the only thing good about that video.
I know for some, it never happened. When Ozzy left they just never gave Dio a chance.
I mean, they are essentially 2 different bands. I just prefer the Dio led band.

Ozzy was/is the voice of Sabbath no doubt...
when Dio came in, he didn't try to be Ozzy, nor does he need to be. He's fucking Dio. I don't think they could've found a better replacement for Ozzy than Ronnie. What Dio brought to the band was a surge of new life...he transformed Black Sabbath from a dying band into a completely new sound.
When we're comparing singing talent as well, Dio takes the cake no contest. Ozzy had some chops in the day, but I think Ozzy needs to consider legitimately retiring soon. Dio could sing circles around Ozzy....and I say this as an hardcore Ozzy Osbourne fan for 8 years.
Ozzy and Dio have both contributed to the greatness that is Sabbath. I absolutely love every album that Ozzy did with Sabbath, however I'm willing to say that I think Heaven and Hell and The Mob Rules are two albums that are as powerful as the first 6 Sabbath albums.
Whether you like him or not, you can't deny that Dio has one of the greatest voices and work ethic in rock.

I did know of that, but haven't checked it out.
Ozzy needs to get over it. How many line-ups have used the moniker "Black Sabbath"? What difference does it make if Dio is the only unoriginal member.
The Ozzy Sabbath days are long gone, and the sooner Ozzy realizes that the better, besides...it's a band name, which when compared to who makes up the band and ultimately what music they produce it doesn't matter...it's just a name.

I won't disagree with you. Past Lives shows off Ozzy's ability as a singer back in the Sabbath 70's era, and the persona he brought with him when he hit the stage. Ozzy was definitely irreplaceable, but like I said before...Dio wasn't trying to carry on Ozzy's presence because he doesn't need to.
That being said, like jimed said.....have you heard Heaven and Hell and The Mob Rules? Henry Rollins described his vocals on The Mob Rules perfectly: "fucking righteous!"

you could argue that Dio was a better vocalist in those days (I'm sure he is now).....I prefer Ozzy's delivery, personally... I like the Dio-Sabbath era...but I think Heaven and Hell wishes it was Blizzard of Ozz...and Mob Rules cannot touch Diary of a Madman. I think I'd even take the Jake era albums over them
blasphemy!
I had to sign an upside down cross after reading this! (I'd have thrown the horns, but....that wouldn't have made much sense, huh?
I tried to like it...but it's not the same...and nowhere near as GOOD.
I was going to try to be constructive...your blunt response made me lol...
