So I don't know why this just now hit me, but I think it's pretty cool

My Nana was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago, had surgery..and is now going thru chemo. She got an Ipod so she could listen to peaceful music while she is literally proceeding with the chemotherapy. So she asked me for some Pearl Jam (how badass of a Nana do I have??) and I gave her a couple peaceful songs.
But I gave her rise by ed ved and told her why I thought this song would relate to battling cancer.
Long story short- she loves the song..then the stand up to cancer thing used that song. I just thought it was really cool, and now this song which was already my favorite solo e.v. song will always remind me of her beating this disease.
She's halfway thru her chemo and doing very well.
I am right by your side

    Best wishes for your Nana.
Rise is my favorite song right now.
And probably will be for a while.
Glad to hear the chemo is treating her well.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

  • Thoughts and prayers to you Nana (who by the way, is obviously uber cool).

Cancer is such a tragic thing... I've lost a roommate, an aunt, my grandfather, and countless others fall to it's filthy grips...

No argument about Rise either... such a beautiful song...

Put a short story collection together a few years ago to help raise money for the American Cancer Society... perhaps it's about time I do another one...
If Adam and Eve had Taco Bell they would have never eaten that filthy fruit...

Rise was our favorite, too, but now has even more meaning.

that's very cool....i couldn't get my mom to use an ipod, let alone listen to eddie during her chemo...but they just switched her to a pill so she doesn't have to go the hospital anymore

thinking good thoughts for your nana....LIVESTRONG! :)

SO sorry to hear. I lost my mother to cancer in 1987, a few years before our boys got together, but I'm sure she would have liked Rise. Such an inspiring song. I hope your nana sees this through and you spend many years ahead together. God Bless!
