Who listened and what did you think?

Even as an Obama supporter, I still can't get over him being awarded this so early in his presidency. Just seems so premature.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

  • premature, sure. But I just read the transcript and that was a brilliant speech.
"Ah, life is a gate, a way, a path to Paradise anyway, why not live for fun and joy and love or some sort of girl by a fireside, why not go to your desire and LAUGH..."
  • except he threatened violence when talking about consequences for genocide

I love how he defends his "morally justified war" while accepting a Peace Prize.

This story should be a headline for the Onion, sad part is that it is not.
    CONservative governMENt

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

"Instruments of war do have a role to play in preserving the peace."

At least he's being realistic about the issue.
I smile, but who am I kidding...
  • i aint gonna listen and I could care less. I hope Obama enjoys his company in this exclusive club. Maybe him and Kissinger can hang out, and talk about ways Obama can prolong the war, maybe talk a little about the benefits of napalm.

It is beyond ridiculous that anyone could call Obama a man of peace. To believe as Obama does, that war, bombs, guns and forcibly taking over another country can bring about any kind of peace, is naive and beyond absurd.

He doesnt deserve the award and frankly he should be HOUNDED from the minute he accepts the award, until his dying day, about the contridictions of being a pro war president and winning the award. Secondly, he should be constantly hounded at every point, every gathering, every meet and greet and asked point blank, "you won the award, now what the hell are you gonna do to bring our brothers and sisters home now?". I would have people scaling the white house walls and fences and interupting his dinner with his family to ask him that question.

I will personally consider everything a failure, if by the time obama leaves office, if obama isnt too stressed out to sleep, if obama is photographed like LBJ was near the end of his term, head in hands, losing his mind over the stresses of fighting a war that was massively unpopular. If obama doesnt lose his hair, or go grey from the stress.
  • there are thousands of people who deserve this award, and stunningly none of them are using guns, bombs, or bullets, or violence as a way to bring about a peaceful world.

I agree, it does sound like a headline ripped from the Onion. Too bad it wasnt just a headline!

people who start wars dont deserve ANY award, much less an award specifically about Peace!

I never understood the rationale behind war, any war. Our grandparents, lived in a time, when some people dropped a bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, because "we were preventing a larger war", yet ask someone in those locations whose family was blown to bits and is still suffering from radiation exposure about what "was prevented".

Plain and simple, wars dont create or promote peace

Well if you're going to bring up WWII then what about Hitler. Without war there would be basically no more Jews and all of Europe if not more of the world would be speaking German.

There will never be a peaceful society because if everyone disarms one Crazy will ramp up there Arms and take over as much as possible. Its was argued by my History Prof that the fact that the US made it known they were staying out of foreign affairs due to the depression was the reason that Hitler ramped up in the first place. There is a reason that Humans have gone to war since the Neanderthal days, its sadly in our nature to want everything no matter the cost.

I am of the Kucinich philosophy. In a televised Presidential Debate, every Democratic candidate was asked, if they had a target on Osama Bin Laden, and could assassinate him, but in doing so would also kill innocent civilians, would they still pull the trigger. Every single candidate except Kucinich answered yes.
That is how I feel about the issue.

Also, if you and your history teacher feel there will never be a peaceful society, then why attack countries or leaders who are violent? Your never going to rid the world of it, so why bother? Why try and take out Hitler, because the world is never going to be free of violence, and if its not the Holocaust, then it will be some other leader, elsewhere. You gotta be consistent friend. Either you take a all war is bad stance like I do, or you say all war is beneficial. And if you believe the latter, you obviously believe war can solve problems and can bring about peace.

Maybe you are right. Maybe there will never be a peaceful world. I hold out hope.

Additionally, your point is essentially meaningless. Reguardless of peaceful world vs non peaceful world, that means squat. The issue here, is whether Obama deserves an award for Peace, when he is engaged in 2 of the longest wars in US history, tracking down a faceless nameless mysterious enemy called terrorism.

Obama is a joke, everything he stands for is a joke. People, I didnt, voted for him because they wanted someone who was different than W. Well, I am having a hard time seeing the difference. Both are power hungry, bloodthirsty, and completely ignorant of the publics wishes
