it's not only a matter of protection to own a gun it's also a right
You make it sound like a good thing.
Take another look at these stats...I don't see any protection going on here, just death. There's a pretty big drop-off between 1st and 2nd place in the murder rankings:
Total firearm-related homicides of developed countries:
United States 11.66
Finland 6.86
Northern Ireland 6.82
Switzerland 6.40
France 6.35
I know the #'s are ugly but can you compare them to the #'s of death's caused by other thing's ?
such as cig's (I am a smoker trying to quit) obesity or booze related death's ?
my whole look on this is my right to keep and bare arms along with other rights I don't want to give up
also what % of the gun related death were self defense ? or accidental ?
well it's just what I feel is important to me and my Rights,it's not that I need a gun it's the right
and the option to have a gun if I choose and it's not any politician's right to take that or any right
away from me.

Guns exist, and always will, unless someone invents a time machine and goes back hundreds of years and changes history. All the laws in the world WILL keep law-abiding citizens from having them-- but violent criminals do not care for the law. Therefore, they will ALWAYS have access to guns through illegal means. Lifting restrictions on citizens having guns levels the playing field for people who want to protect themselves and their families. The idea of civillians being potentially armed would probably be a much bigger deterrent to a criminal than the death penalty-- when it comes to self defense, there is no trial, no jury, no appeals. It is the right of every individual to be able to defend him or herself from harm.
If the pilots were armed on 9/11, the attacks may not have happened.
I'm not a fan of guns by any means-- I don't own one, and have never fired one. But I'll say, especially living in NY where there is always talk of more gun control, even to the point of laws registering and stamping bullets, it really makes me want to get one before it becomes impossible... Forbidden fruit? Maybe. That, and I live in a pretty rough area-- but hey, I love it. The cops can't be everywhere, and even if they could, why would you want them to be?
Also, an armed citizenry IS the last line of defense between the people and an oppressive foreign or domestic government (empire). I do not consider us so special here on this piece of soil that we are 100% exempt from either one of them ever doing it to us-- after all, we are humans, and we are living history. You may not like guns, or "gun-nuts" but they may very well be one of the most important insurance policies that you have, and the best part is, you're getting it for free!

Based on what I read throughout that link I don't think you have to worry about President Obama taking away your right to own a gun. There is a better chance of him pulling out of Iraq or Afghanistan than him taking away your right to guns whether it's an automatic weapon or not.

yes he has said on numerous occasions he is "not taking anybody's guns away"....jesus..will you guys ever get over that fear?
like anybody can ever repeal the 2nd ammendment. do you know what that would involve? unprcedented cooperation in both houses of congress for starters, which we know is never gonna happen. its not like obama is a king and can make a decree making all guns illegal. do you know how ridiculous that concept sounds? just another reason to hate obama and be scared of what the socialist is gonna to do america...

It's not that the second ammendment will ever be repealed-- you're right, I don't think it will. However, like many of the other amendments in the bill of rights, laws are written every day that wrongfully and unconstitutionally trump these stated rights. I believe the right to arms is most under attack by state governments than the federal government. So, is Obama trying to take our guns? I don't think so. A better question is, is your own governor trying to take your guns?

So how come every country in Europe has a minimal problem with gun crime? Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that guns are illegal in all European countries?
It's interesting to note that China's murder rate is half that of the U.S. I'll keep that in mind for the next time someone on this board refers to China as [and I quote] "a fucked-up bullshit country".

This isn't my beloved country - I just live here.
And I'm against the death penalty.
Also, the death penalty has nothing to do with any country's level of violent crime.
But they are usually restricted in numbers (hand guns in particular) and registered. I think Norwegian law requires you to have a lockable locker for them as well. I wouldn't know, as I've never owned one, and never seen the need for one.
As for gun access reducing crime, now that's just BS. That just means that guns are floating around more, and more people use them and the police will always have to be armed to the teeth. More guns means more shootings, and since they are way more lethal than knives for instance, more people die. On the other hand, banning guns wont do much either, as I think what the rates show is that the US is a more violent society with large differences in wealth and class than other "western nations". Guns aren't the cause of the crime, but they do facilitate it.
As for policy, banning guns altogether seems a bit drastic, but at the very least restrict and register them. Don't allow people to walk around with concealed weapons in public. That's the sane way to go about it. As for the violence in the US, that must be adressed throgh the real causes. Poverty, inequality and winner-takes-all focus.

You make some good points. But don't all Western Capitalist countries have the same pressures & inequalities. And If you take those pressures & inequalities and throw guns into the mix then you're left with a pretty unhealthy cocktail for trouble. Sure, guns need to be registered/regulated, and then we can look at the bigger picture, although those two kids at Columbine weren't suffering from poverty as far as I'm aware.

Because the U.S is gonna be invaded by Grenada, right?
I don't know for sure why European nations have less gun crime, but I do believe that European countries are more easily and willingly governed from a stronger central government than the US. Socialization works better over there because they have a cultural identity, or at least more than us, they know what they want as a people better than we do-- we're such a giant mish-mosh of people form all walks of life, and our original governing structure as outlined in the Constitution was designed to be more localized and state-run. If it is the will of the people over there to make medicine or gun control happen through their government, they will probably come closer to achieving the desired result through a more powerful, centralized authority. For one thing, our population is probably 5 times greater than that of any Western European country, which is that much more unmanageable-- so it is best run by the states, some of which are BIGGER population-wise than a lot of European Countries. So again, the biggest difference is that people are more alike over there, and they happen to be more "progressive." Freedom of choice and individual responsibility works best here, if only we'd let it actually work again. We need to stop propping up failure (in general) in the US.
Grenada? That's cute, Byrnzie. My whole statement reads foreign OR DOMESTIC oppressive government, and again, I don't believe that we are so special that we are 100% exempt from ever being attacked or invaded by any threatening force-- after all, what goes around, comes around, right?
Yes, guns are the easiest way to commit a violent crime or kill something. If someone wants to do either bad enough, they will find a way to do it, with guns or not. I do believe that we need cops who should be armed, but good, law-abiding citizens should be armed as well if they so choose, with minimal restrictions.
this is cool, I found a Flamingo $5 poker chip in my old stuff last night.
December 26: General Interest
1946 : Bugsy Siegel opens Flamingo Hotel
On December 26, 1946, in Las Vegas, Nevada, mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel opens The Pink Flamingo Hotel & Casino at a total cost of $6 million. The 40-acre facility wasn’t complete and Siegel was hoping to raise some revenue with the grand opening.
Well-known singer and comedian Jimmy Durante headlined the entertainment, with music by Cuban band leader Xavier Cugat. Some of Siegel’s Hollywood friends, including actors George Raft, George Sanders, Sonny Tufts and George Jessel were in attendance.
The grand opening, however, was a flop. Bad weather kept many other Hollywood guests from arriving. And because gamblers had no rooms at the hotel, they took their winnings and gambled elsewhere. The casino lost $300,000 in the first week of operation.
Siegel and his New York "partners" had invested $1 million in a property already under construction by Billy Wilkerson, owner of the Hollywood Reporter as well as some very popular nightclubs in the Sunset Strip. Wilkerson had wanted to recreate the Sunset Strip in Las Vegas, with a European style hotel with luxuious rooms, a spa, health club, showroom, golf course, nightclub and upscale restaurant. But he soon ran out of money due to the high cost of materials immediately after the war.
Siegel, who held a largest interest in the racing publication Trans America Wire, was drawn to Las Vegas in 1945 by his interest in legalized gambling and off-track betting. He purchased The El Cortez hotel for $600,000 and later sold it for a $166,000 profit.
Siegel and his organized crime buddies used the profits to influence Wilkerson to accept new partners. Siegel took over the project and supervised the building, naming it after his girlfriend Virginia Hill, whose nickname was "The Flamingo" because of her red hair and long legs.
Two weeks after the grand opening, the Flamingo closed down. It re-opened March 1, 1947, as The Fabulous Flamingo. Siegel forced Wilkerson out in April, and by May, the resort reported a profit, but it wasn't enough to save Siegel.
Convinced that Siegel wasn’t giving them a "square count," it is widely believed that his partners in organized crime had him killed while he was reading the paper June 20, 1947, at Hill’s Beverly Hills mansion. Hill was in Paris, having flown the coop after a fight with Siegel 10 days prior. The crime remains unsolved to this day.
Surviving a series of name and ownership changes, the hotel is known today as The Flamingo Las Vegas, owned and operated by Harrah’s Entertainment. The property offers 3,626 hotel rooms and a 77,000-square-foot casino.

You may not like guns, or "gun-nuts" but they may very well be one of the most important insurance policies that you have, and the best part is, you're getting it for free!

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama
when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'
i was thinkin 'death before dishonor'
Based on what I read throughout that link I don't think you have to worry about President Obama taking away your right to own a gun. There is a better chance of him pulling out of Iraq or Afghanistan than him taking away your right to guns whether it's an automatic weapon or not.

like anybody can ever repeal the 2nd ammendment. do you know what that would involve? unprcedented cooperation in both houses of congress for starters, which we know is never gonna happen. its not like obama is a king and can make a decree making all guns illegal. do you know how ridiculous that concept sounds? just another reason to hate obama and be scared of what the socialist is gonna to do america...
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
Because the U.S is gonna be invaded by Grenada, right?

"Every judgment teeters on the brink of error. To claim absolute knowledge is to become monstrous. Knowledge is an unending adventure at the edge of uncertainty." - Frank Herbert, Dune, 1965
You make some good points. But don't all Western Capitalist countries have the same pressures & inequalities. And If you take those pressures & inequalities and throw guns into the mix then you're left with a pretty unhealthy cocktail for trouble. Sure, guns need to be registered/regulated, and then we can look at the bigger picture, although those two kids at Columbine weren't suffering from poverty as far as I'm aware.
if this is not your beloved country tou have no real right to complain about our laws
or right's, just sayin.

I'll complain about whatever I want to complain about.
My love of complaining transcends all borders and Nation States. :P
got me !
enjoy the complain trail my friend.
