Suppose it is 2019 and Stone/Jeff have quit the band.....

Would you still go see the band live, or would you walk away, and just remember the old days?
(Assume the remaining members still call themselves Pearl Jam)

Well... I miss the way they play music before they let Dave go... and I still come to shows, so I guess I would still go. Then some people who started listening to the band post-Stone/Jeff would tell me how Stone/Jeff were overrated, and how their new members are better, and that I should "get over" Stone and/or Jeff.

I reckon bass players are quite interchangable.
I don't think the band would go on without Jeff/Stone, considering that Ed thinks of Jeff as the leader and Jeff probably does a lot for the band behind the scenes.
I do think they'd continue without Mike and maybe have guest guitarists to fill his shoes.

The secret to every great band is a great bassist.
Agree.... After the drummer, Mike is the most replaceable.
I can get behind this statement. When introducing the band members at shows, Ed usually phrases things like: "We're so lucky to have Mike/Matt play with us" That's not to say he is "replaceable" merely that it seems more likely he would go his own way, and that finding a substitute would be an acceptable way for the band to continue. My feeling, not so much founded in fact, as it is a vibe, is that Ed, Stone and Jeff would continue Pearl Jam with whoever wanted to play with them.
I know I'm overusing the comparison, but I predict that things will end up for PJ likely the way they did for the Grateful Dead. It will take tragedy to break these guys up. When or if that happens, any permutations of the band will still be in the spirit and honor of the original. Bob Weir and Rat Dog aren't fooling themselves. Fans see them to relive what a Dead show was like. I know that which ever way Ed, Mike, Stone, Jeff, Matt or even Boom go, we will follow them because we love Pearl Jam. We're going to see pieces of what we remember from what we love about the band.
but I hope (don't think) any of that will be for a long long time.

hahaha topped off by a stop in Pistoia, Italy to play that organ from Immagine In Cornice
If Ed, Mike and Matt did a side project and played in your town, would you not want to see them?
