I guess I should rank these, so as to not be hypocritical. I definitely prefer any album to start out rocking hard.
1. Go (this is the definition of an opener - just rocks!)
2. Last Exit
3. Brain of J
4. Once (Master/Slave is cool too)
5. Life Wasted (like a lot of Avocado, sounds best driving)
6. Can't Keep (one of the highlights of Riot Act)
7. Gonna See My Friend (Ed put in "Buona Sera," but mispronounces it like a Spanish "Buena")
8. Sometimes (I still think this is a bit boring - Hail Hail should've opened that album)
9. Breakerfall (Opening 3 songs of Binaural are disappointing)

I remember listening to Vs. for the first time the day it came out, and how it started with the instruments at a lower volume, with the bass and drums playing the main groove then...WHAM! Everything kicked in at full volume, then the vocals came in, and by the time I got to the chorus, I was like "FUCK YEAH...Pearl Jam is the SHIT!!!"
I wish they'd play it like that live.
Have they ever?
I don't know if they've done it EXACTLY like that, but when I saw them for the first time in Osaka (2/21/95), they did something very similar with Jack playing the intro drum beat and Jeff the bass line, with Mike and Stone doing some guitar stuff, then they stopped and Jack did the "1...2...3...4..." count-in on the hi-hat up to the part where they start it nowadays.
Osaka, Japan (2/21/95), San Diego (7/10/98), Las Vegas (10/22/00), San Diego (10/25/00), Las Vegas (6/6/03), Las Vegas (7/6/06), Los Angeles (7/9/06), VH1 Rock Honors (7/12/08), Ed Solo (7/8/11), Ed Solo (11/1/12), Los Angeles (11/23/13)
I'm surprised... I would of thought once by a long shot...
You get the cool intro with bass and timps etc...
And then a song with I don't know how many solos...
Sure some of the others are good two but this is vintage...
I'd pay good money for more songs in this vein...
Heard the first 3 songs of London O2 and i love them! They fit together perfectly!!!
1. Release
2. Animal
3. Corduroy

1234...
But what a strong list... All amazing.
Same.
Although I've listened to those 3 albums by far the most among pearl jam albums, so they must just stay stuck in my head the most.
