This makes me sad. If we're lucky, he'll move to the MLB Network.

Even as a Yankee fan I liked watching Gammons reports. So I'll be curious as to what he will do.

He'll me missed for sure, he'll have more time to attend Sox games. I hope this isn' a health related issue.

Gammons, the master of concocting wild trade schemes.

I hold fond memories of getting the Boston Sunday Globe and reading through his "Notes" column, which, wasn't a column, but more like a full page weekly bible of information for baseball fans.

I hope he decides to write a book of the things he's seen over the last few decades.

ESPN needs to be in with more Peter Gammons and out with Jim Rome.

This is a step in the wrong direction. Some people can't be replaced.

Sucks. He's one of the few respectable journalists left on "The Worldwide Leader."

ESPN's baseball coverage is becoming an absolute joke. Buster Olney is now the only guy they have the I respect in the least. Great stuff from the MLB Network. Looking forward to next seasons coverage. I don't know many baseball fans that preferred BBTN the MLBN last season and this just further solidfies it.

I like Buster Olney and Tim Kurkjian. Other than that, they've got nothing left. MLB Network has easily passed Baseball Tonight as the best baseball program out there. Adding Gammons is icing on the cake for me.

I heard about Gammons leaving and was disappointed, but now that he is going to the MLB Network I am happy. The MLB Network kicks ass and Gammons will only make it better. MLB Tonight is 10 times better than Baseball Tonight.

I don't know- I think all of these new sports networks are still working out their kinks. They may be as a good as ESPN one day but they're not there yet. Plus, I prefer getting my sports from a one-stop shop like ESPN.

ESPN is an absolute joke. They are more concerned with having studios in Hollywood and having celebrities doing the Top 10 than delivering quality analysis. It is becoming entertainment and not news. MLBN was hands down better than BBTN in its first season. Aside from Mitch Williams pretty much every analyst and host on MLBN brings something to the table.

They may have better analysts (Pleasac, Reynalds) than ESPN (Perez, Destrade) but Baseball Tonight's hosts blow MLB network's away (esp Ravich).

The only problem I have with BBall Tonight is their East Coast Bias.

I have always like Ravich a lot but I am also a big fan of Matt Vasgersian. I think he does an outstanding job.

    You like Karl Ravich???

Your whole quote explains a lot.

Right now, the NFL Network is 10 times better than ESPN. MLB Network is better than ESPN.

As cliffy stated, ESPN is a disaster. It's not a Sports network anymore, it's a damn marketing campaign. Marketing for their broadcasts.

Watch sportscenter, you know what you won't see? Hockey highlights. You know why you won't see them? Becuase ESPN doesn't cover hockey. Sure, they might toss you a cursory Ovechkin or Crosby highlight, but ... that's all you're going to get. They show more tennis and soccer highlights, why? Because they show tennis and soccer. Hell, they cover the WNBA and women's college hoops with more zest than the NHL, all because they show those sports on the "World Wide Leader".

And don't get me started on all the effin' crazy talk shows that are on this network. Sure, PTI is a decent watch, but, 3/4 of the jokers on Around the Horn are idiots. Skip Bayless? Jim Rome? Are you kidding me? You really want to give these douchebags a forum?

Finally, the Tiger shit ... they led off Sportcenter last night with the 911 call for his mother in law ... 5 - 6 minutes of that call ... really? They should spend a little more time covering sports and a little less time trying to outdo TMZ.

Anyway, change the dial ... you'll see better coverage of .... everything ... elsewhere.

    I'm glad Gammons is leaving.

Very well said, your are absolutely correct on all of it. It is unreal how the game that gets the most analysis just so happens to be the one that is on ESPN. That shit has been bugging me for years. To them the most important game is the one they are broadcasting, it is a joke.

It is a damn shame all the newapaper writers that left their writing job to "perform" on espn. The louder an analyst yells the more their point is correct.

Also, a note to all the Sportscenter hosts; GIve up the fucking catchphrases, you are not funny!!!!!!!!!!! They were funny in 1994 with Olberman and Patrick. Stuart Scott is the worst thing to ever happen to sports media

My recent favorite was a few weeks ago when the Monday Night Football game they had coming up was the Browns vs Ravens ... and they had "UP TO THE MINUTE" coverage of the Browns deciding to make Brady Quinn the starter. Seriously, analysts talking about it ... live interviews ... live reports from Browns HQ ... for BRADY FUCKING QUINN ...

Didn't see that same kind of ooomph towards the Bills moving to Ryan Fitzpatrick, or the Raiders going to Bruce Gradkowski. Hmmm ... wonder why.

Oh ... and the Browns got shut out on MNF.

Once the controversy calms down, I'm sure MLBN will be more than happy to snag him as an analyst.

You are exactly right. ESPN just pushes what they will be airing. Ever notice how now they show soccer highlights??? Wonder why... because they are going to be airing the Premiere League next year. ESPN is a POS. I wish there was another full-time all sports network.

I agree with basically everything Jim Rice said in this thread. ESPN sucks (besides PTI which I still love). Too bad there's not really an alternative for total sports coverage.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.
