I believe in this and it's been tested by research; that Spinal Tap is not only the greatest comedy on film, but is now starting to contend with the list of greatest ever movies (a biting snapshot of the whole 1980s era!) :)

However, I'm only just starting to appreciate the full majesty of the additional material (later interviews, movie out-takes etc). I need some help in identifying some of this extra stuff, since if I watch more than two new clips in a row I'm normally found giggling to myself inappropriately in public situations hours later.

How about these 3 for instance:

Spinal Tap on Heavy Rock & Jazz (as ageing rock royalty):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wscZhvj_lH4

Nigel Tufnel on the history of Stonehenge (National Geographic Channel iv):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMofDWzfA6A

And finally this DVD out-take about Indonesian folk music:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_LAS16AEvw

This is about as much as I can manage in one sitting. Any more pointers most welcome!

Need I point out that there are 168 hours in a week?

Don't worry, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry didn't get it the first time either.

Some times you just have to give in to the silly.

    For example:
    spinal_tap.jpg

How could you not laugh at that picture? And yet, there were people who took themselves completely seriously when they'd actually perform, dress, and act like this to make their living.

That movie is one of the sharpest commentaries I've ever seen and as a music fan I love how it spares no one.

It's definitely a grower! I've lost count of the number of times I've seen it with the friends I grew up with. These days for a few of us spinal tap is the only thing we can agree on without coming to blows!

It is very, very clever, you start to realise there are no throwaway lines whosoever

eg - '[that band] were so bad the audience were still booing them when we came on the stage....'

    &

'The gospel according to Spinal Tap: This pretentious ponderous collection of religious rock psalms is enough to prompt the question 'what day did the Lord create Spinal Tap and couldn't he have rested on that day too?'

These are two of my favourite lines which completely passed me by the first 5 or 6 times of watching! hehe

There is a hell of a lot of improvisation in there too, I think only about 60% of it was scripted in advance.

Watch David St Hubbins (the blond lead singer 'corpsing' here when Nigel Tufnel talks about their effect on young women (0.33 - 1.06 on this vid) I'm sure he's just hearing that line for the first time!

    Great stuff

I enjoyed that movie but can remember hardly anything about it.

I did come away with a line I have used many times since tho

'Does the pope shit in the woods.....?'
