SO I own an old cheap Epiphone lefty.. it was about $199, but its falling apart on me.
I bought an Epiphone Casino, my 2nd guitar ever, and it sounds awesome, but i can only use it on a handful of songs because the neck is kinda narrow and I have large fingers.

Anyways, I've been shopping around for a new electric guitar around $500-600, but cant find shit in a lefty.
Anybody have any suggestions???

Sorry to sound so picky too, but i've never really been a fender guy, and i wont flip a righty over. I just wish I could afford a Gibson Les Paul or a rickenbacker.

I'm considering a Epiphone G-400 for about $350 - I guess its the cheap version of the SG. but no stores carry these guitars to try 'em out!

ps - Anyone have any luck with lefty dan electros in lefty?
Thanks!
~Jon

  • I've had some experience with two different Epiphone G-400's (the decent SG copy) as two close friends have owned them. I'd certainly recommend them, I think they're pretty solid guitars for the price. I'd steer clear of the cheaper Epi SG copy, the G-310, as it has a bolt-on neck instead of the set-neck. I'd also be prepared to upgrade the pickups eventually, as the Epi pickups start to feel lacking over time. The big advantage for you in the G-400 is that the neck is a tad wider, which sounds like a good fit for you.

I'd also point you towards the guys at Southpaw Guitars, who are kind of the leaders in lefty stringed instruments. I know one of the M&G alumni, who posted under the name Exhausted, used to talk pretty highly of them as a lefty resource. http://www.southpawguitars.com/ They're even listing an Epiphone G-400 in wine red and an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus in cherry sunburst in their current inventory.

Musician's Friend is also listing some Hagstrom guitars that are fairly affordable:

Hagstrom are pretty decent guitars for the money, easily on-par with Epiphone stuff. They're pretty Les-Paul-ish, as you can see from the pictures. And they're one of those brands that make a lot of players kinda curious, since it's ALMOST a Les Paul, but not quite.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

cool, thanks! I will check out that southpaw site. Glad to hear about the G400 neck, its hard to figure out when you cant have the guitar in your hands. But most of the big chains offer a 30 money back guarantee. Thanks again man!

What I've done is find the type of guitar I want then go to ebay for it. There are less LH guitars on ebay, but there are a lot less people bidding on them. I got a '57 strat reissue on there for less than half of retail.

I have to agree with mccreadyisgod!
I own a Hagstrom Swede lefty. It's the Les Paul type. And I really like it, you get a lot for the money. Check it out!
