  • Really ? I really like that show cos I think for one it's positive viewing for a change, and when you might think that you're going through some tough times, you realize that things aren't so bad after all. Especially when you seee what some of these families have gone through.
  • i just wonder how stable those houses are. i hope they do a little off camera work after the show.

i was gonna go volunteer just to see what they are doing.
  • There are also some horror stories associated with the families who receive the houses. I have read of at least 5 documented cases of either foreclosure (family financed an equity loan on the home and could not afford it after a while, they were advised against getting the loan and still pursued it), tax upset sales or other difficulties the families have with living in these homes. Google it and you will see.

Yes I agree it is positive viewing, but I also believe the show needs to look more carefully at whom they are choosing.
  • Im sure they pass code. I mean could you imagine the lawsuits if they didn't. I would defiantly go and volunteer if I had the choice.
  • I'm so dangerous I smoke dynamite.

Say hi to Christian Slater. You must be in the 'Hub' city, they're like 3 blocks from my mom's house...

I have heard that too. Lots of times you have these families where they have little or no income, and are all of the sudden given a new house. Sure the house is free, and a bunch of times the show pays off the mortgage on the old house. But at the same time when your house is 5 times as big, it costs way more to keep the house heated, lit and insured. Add to that higher property taxes and I think there are quite a few families who end up selling these houses.
i just wonder how stable those houses are. i hope they do a little off camera work after the show.

I wouldn't be too worried about the safety of the houses. I mean as much as the show makes it look like the designers show up and make things up on the fly the houses are designed, and likely approved months in advance. Plus evertime I watch it it seems a lot of the construction is done ahead of time (you never see them building walls, just putting up pre-built walls).

It would piss me off if they blocked off my neighborhood to do a show. Can other home construction block off a block of people, likely no!
When Eastwood was filming Gran Torino, they did one scene down the street from me. Although it was exciting, it pissed me off. He made a ton of money, but many of us footed the bill. It was just one scene in my neighborhood. Think about all the scenes, and then think of all the movies! Again, he made a fortune, but we paid the bill.
They had the whole area blocked off and were using the local sheriffs. The area wasn't a city block. I live in a semi-rural area and it was the main artery that lets us get in and out of here. It was a two lane road that dead ends, you either have to turn left or right, where they were filming. We had to drive about 4 miles out of our way to get home or to leave. We couldn't use that road and the other road in is a few miles away. If I forgot about the filming I ended up driving to the filming site then turning around and driving to the other road. That was even more miles. Oh yeah, they also had one of our fire trucks and ambulances on site.
Plus they used our sheriffs. My bf said the sheriffs likely worked on overtime, however, they were using cop cars. I don't pay taxes so Eastwood can get rich.
    Save room for dessert!
