Glastonbury Festival..?

I think the TBD show for June 27th is going to be a headline slot for the Sunday night of Glastonbury.

When I was at the VIP barbecue at Reading Festival in 2008, Melvin Benn told me that Glastonbury's bookers had been trying to get them to play, but that they had declined. I think they have been persuaded by a combination of curiosity and U2.

It's a shame though, because nobody can buy tickets now and there won't be many PJ fans there.

Anyone else think it could be the case?

I hope so, because I don't want to miss out on a UK show and nor do I wish for that once great and now crap festival to have them.

Nijmegen apparently. Too much to hope that they go for a 3 nights in a row run and do a slot on the Saturday at Glasto?

If they do play Glastonbury it won't be listed in the European Tour dates as having possible presales anyway. Any Gig at Glastonbury would be shorter than their usual gig and it doesn't take long to fly to Holland. Fingers crossed that Saturday night is Pearl Jam Glastonbury since I have a ticket and won't be able to get to the London show. Glastonbury still rocks and last year Neil Young was brilliant. Really hope PJ play but I might have to grab a ticket for one of the Ireland shows.
  • I already have Glastonbury 2010 tickets so really would like them to play there. Go on PJ, lets have you.

Saturday at Glasto is going to be Rolling Stones. It's possible that PJ may play below them, but seems doubtful that they'd want to play 3 nights in a row with the hassle of travelling between countries.

  • I'd love to see Pearl Jam at Glastonbury! I'd be gutted to miss out on a tour. Wonder if I can afford a trip to Ireland in Glastonbury week...

There are plenty of Pearl Jam fans going to Glastonbury! Rolling Stones are the big tip but who knows - even if they are there, Ronnie Wood, U2 - the boys have mates to come say hello to. Or, how about a secret appearance for the fun of it in the afternoon or something. Just not when England are playing....

  • I would love PJ to play Glastonbury, they would be perferct as Other Stage headliners. Failing that an Eddie solo slot on a smaller stage would be pretty damn special!

This doesn't really say anything at all, but thought I'd share the email response I got from the Glastonbury Office when I asked if PJ were playing:

    "Hi James,

Thank you for getting in touch.

Officially, the headliners are never announced until June – the month of the Festival. Of course, there are the inevitable Press leaks and you can choose to believe them or not: some turn out to be true, some do not. Check out eFestivals and virtualfestivals – they are always good for gossip! What we can say is that potentially we have a great line-up – arguably the best yet – but we are still in the middle of contracting and we are not in a position to announce anything as it could compromise negotiations. Also, built into some contracts when artists are touring and have venues to sell, are constraints about when we can release information - we have lost a headliner in the past when we announced too early.

The Festival is always better when people come for the entire event and not just for a specific act – and the event will, as always, be spectacular!

That is as much as I can say at this stage, James – sorry!

    Best Wishes,

    GlastFestOffice."

That's what I was thinking too, what with their history and all. It's the only way I can see them playing Glasto as I can't see them taking up an offer to headline the 'other stage.' I hope they play there, for your sake (and several big PJ fans who'll be there) and for beefing up their profile in the UK as a major act as I can't see them headlining Glasto with the way it's done these days, I just don't think they've got that mass appeal anymore.

Is there any relevance to the fact Glasto/Emily Eavis are tweeting about items added to the Oxfam Haiti auction, including merchandise from Pearl Jam - I'd imagine someone at Oxfam had to contact them for a contribution, made a lot easier if the contact had already been made by their close mates at Glasto...
