It's crazy, but

I would've loved to see PJ make a more progressive, complex album after Binaural's spacey sound. More complex time signatures, longer songs...with Matt at the skins, and his penchant for odd-time, it would've been a worthy experiment.
Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Sounds good to me.....except for one thing:

  • since BInaural but mainly Avocado/Backspacer era, PJ seems to have stopped adding the element of mystery and experiments that started with vitalogy.

I think backspacer is great, but i miss the tracks that take a while to understand. such as push me pull me, aye davinita and i'm open.

  • The tempo shifts and time signatures on Binaural are some of my favorites not only in PJ's catalog but in all of music. Eddie said in the Backspacer behind the scenes "We've made self indulgent records before, and we probably will again the next time", so lets hope they get back to that sound.

Ah what a great audience. You guys have been great.

Anyway, everything you need to know about time signatures is on the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_signature. 4/4 is "common time" which most of the music you or I would listen to is in. But Matt is sort of renowned for playing 7/4 because that's the meter that some Soundgarden songs are in.

  • I love Binaural because of its spacey sound, I say something like that again would be cool.
But as you know they never make the same sounding album twice....

True, and I love the spacey sound on Binaural too, but no matter what they come up with, they always seem to come up with the goods. I love all their albums, they haven't put out a bad one yet and I dont think they ever will. Still it's a matter of opinion as to what people want them to do with new albums, like some people want experimental as in the No Code vein, others want albums full of rockers etc. I dont know how much more they can change their sound yet still sound like themselves. It'll be interesting to see what else they can come up with over the years. It never ceases to amaze me how they keep coming up with new stuff all the time, they never run out of ideas!

I'm kinda hoping for the next record to include only 8 tracks, with a running time of 50 minutes!
A jamming rocking mindblowing Mike McCready soloing kind of record.
Fan can dream right? Fan can dream! ...
  • i want them to do more of a concept album...like a rock opera or something...i've mentioned that a few times on here...i mean their influences of The Who and Pink Floyd allow them to really put out a great concept album. i think it would be great for PJ to do one as well
