Need to figure out when this is shown in the UK (if not on the same day). Incredibly interesting topic put together in a fantastic way. Will get my daughter to watch it too... she will be taking her GCSE in history and this is one of her topics!
  • I'll probably check it out,but I think I have a pretty good Idea what the message is going to be all you have to do is look at the line up.

And what message do you think it will be? Care to give us a summary?
  • Ok I watched a few of the clips and I will admit that I was wrong. I had pre conceived notion that it was going to be a documentary about why america is a bad country according to some people. But at the same time I was thinking that No, the History channel wouldn't do something like that.

did anyone watch this last night? i caught the last hour but missed the first. from what i saw i loved it. very well done. most of the people whose writings and speeches were presented were amazing, dramatic, and heartfelt. can't wait to see the first hour. i can tell that this project was a labor of love for the talent that did the readings. inspired musical performances as well.

any thoughts from anyone else out there that saw it??

Twas a great show. Howard Zinn is wonderful and this is a great representation of his work. Making light and showing a darker, ignored side of history not taught in classrooms or discussed in most circles as a measure to defend patriotism, history and national pride in order to get a specific and distinct type of political thinking citizen.

I noticed that the show was dedicated to Zinn's wife Ros, did she pass away? I read you can't be neutral on a moving train a few years ago and can't remember if she was still alive at that time...

its just a different way to look at history.

instead of told from the eyes of the victors, as is usual, its told from the point of view of the victims. histroy from the eyes of a minority during segregation, from a civilian during war, from an activist during a protest.

its a different way to look at history and it puts things in perspective.

zinn's a people's history is one of the best books i have ever read.

I know one thing.. There were tooo many damn commercials, but I did learn about some stories and got to hear a different side of things. Which is always good. At the same time though some of the stories had an anti american spin on it. I know that there have been atrocities commited by some Americans and those voices should be heard no doubt, but I think we have done a lot more good and It should have been pointed out.

I want to see a Documentary about on the minutia of constitutional authority, the illegality of what the EPA is trying to do,the Supreme courts role in destroying this country,or on the federal government and what they have been doing when it comes to private property rights.
There never will be one though until people start waking up or when their own liberties are threatened. Then people will ask for help.I just hope it's not to late.
  • DVR'ed it and watched last night, really enjoyed it. i like how they filmed it and it was well done. some top notch readings in there, good selections and delivery (viggo mortensen in particular). and of course, always cool to see ed. 8-)
    Stay with me...

You're missing the point - these stories are brought to light because they are the forgotten or ignored part of American history. You may call them "black eyes" or may not want to hear them, but its fact and history..
