Get up this morning and head out to the car to go get my morning coffee. Look down and realize my lock was jacked up. Look inside and see that a chunk of my dashboard was pulled out.

Stereo gone!!

Fuckers!

I don't even really care about the stereo so much, but the fuckers pried my fuckin' lock causing all sorts of damage to the outter door. I really wish they would have just broke the damn window!

Does anyone know how something like that is even fixed? Fuck!

Oh and guess what was in the stereo at the time?
Yep, you guessed it...

Backspacer!

  • My car was stolen in 2006 and the bastards took everything possible out of my car, including my Pearl Jam Avocado album.

    I know how you feel

had the same shit happen to me a while back. I remember having to go through my passenger door to get into my truck, because they fucked up my driver side lock. They also destroyed my dash area when trying to pull out the stereo, so with that the air conditioning system was damaged too.

A few weeks ago a neighborhood near here had 7 cars broken into on the same block. The local news did a story on it because it was said the cops couldn't do JACK SHIT about it really unless these clowns were caught in the act.

Yeah, I called the police to file a report knowing full well that there isn't a damn thing they're gonna do.

Cop comes out and is like "Do you want us to dust for prints?" I'm like "Really? Prints for a $150 stereo?"

    hahaha!

I can't even lock my car now because the dickhead broke my lock. Ugh!

    On a positive note:

I had my CDs in my car. Probably at least 50 of them in the back on the floor in a case.
The case was covered by a sun shield, otherwise they'd likely be gone too.

I almost think its better to just leave doors unlocked, unless you have some other valuebles inside.

  • sorry to hear mca....I know the feeling.

My car was stolen years ago(windows smashed, club cut off, etc) in the late morning at my job which had a fenced in lot. I remember walking out to go to lunch and thinking where the fuck did i park? while stepping on a pile off broken glass.

my father never locks his truck because he says if someone wants it, they'll get it and better to not have damaged doors, locks, windows, etc

My parents car got broken into last year, and the GPS stolen. Strange thing about it was the burgs used some electronic device to get in, and they locked it back when they were done.

The only suspicious things was the car was harder to get into, Dad had to unlock it at the drivers door, and the glove box was open. They didn't piece it together until my neighbours said they were robbed and then they checked and saw we had been too.

I've still got a tape deck and no cd player. I'd recommend doing the same if you have a chance. Get a tape adapter for your mp3 player and your as good as gold.

Yeah, I didn't even think people stole stereos anymore.

I mean, the one I had was maybe $200 when I got it years ago, but I"m pretty sure the same thing at Best Buy is probably about $30. It really wasn't a great stereo at all!

Pretty sad to think someone went to the trouble to pry the lock, take off the dash plate, unscrew the 6 or so screws that mounts it, then un-do the connections (the wire caps and screws were sitting on the floor) for a cheap-ass stereo!

Again, if the dude or dudes who did it would have just knocked on my door and said "Hey buddy, we're going to steal your stereo." I would have been like "Oh, how about I just give you the $30 it's worth to save me the trouble of having to get my door fixed."

And how f'n bad does your life have to be to even think about doing something like that?

    Ugh!

I'm really sorry to hear about the damage that was done. I hope it is covered by insurance or something.

Friend, here is a small story to make you feel better.

In 1995 I had a nice new mountain bike. It was $800 new and only a few months old. I had it locked up outside my apartment. It was a rigid frame GT with a chromoly frame. The only really nice things on it were the derailleurs (Shimano XT front & rear). The bike was stock. No bar ends yet. No suspension fork. Just a nice bike. I had a Kryptonite lock that I would put through the rear tire and frame and I would take the front tire and seat in with me.

One morning I came out to go to work. I took the lock off and put my front tire and seat on. I straddled the bike and went to put my foot on the pedal so I could push off with a little momentum. My foot hit the ground. I was very confused for a moment as I looked down and saw that the pedal was missing. So was the one on the other side.

They were not nice pedals with toe clips. They were the stock pedals with the little adjustable straps for your foot. When I went to the bike shop where I bought my bike the guy there said that was the first time he'd ever heard of that. I felt much better riding away from the shop than I did walking my bike to it.

Do I get a reward for finding the guy that did it?

I have had my car and my home broken into. Every time, the damage to doors or windows cost more to fix than the cost of what was stolen.
I am wondering if you are going to have to get a new door.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get a new door. It looks like they took a screwdriver and pounded around the lock then jammed it. I don't think they are going to be able to repair it...or I'm not sure how they actually COULD repair it.

    Anyways, a question for people.

If I got a new stereo with a removable faceplate, would that decrease the chance of this happening again?
Or is it one of those things where they'd just take it to be pricks?
