Do you eat meat? Do you think animals are slaughtered in a better way in slaughterhouses? A child is born, there is a gathering, there is a feast. The goats are the meal... what's the problem? You would buy your meat at the supermarket, they get it fresh and slaughter it themselves.

The way you speak of your brother in law and his nationality is disgusting.

The way you speak of the Pakistani and their culture is xenophobic and racist. You are trying to turn a perfectly reasonable cultural event into some repugnant and evil deed. Nothing to add.

um, yeah as much as I love animals, they are eating them, arent they? I could see if they just threw the carcasses away, but unless you are a vegetarian I don't really think you can really curse them out for eating a goat...

Maybe they didn't invite you because of your ignorant views of their culture?

No, but we wouldn't need a deer hunting season if we hadn't hunted their natural predators away. Mountain Lions, Wolves, Bear, even saber tooth back in the day have dissapeared from most of the US because of man. It's a shame. I say reintroduce these beasts back to their native territory and call it a day.
  • I don't care if you're a vegetarian or not. You do not have to take part in the celebration. This is their culture, they're eating the meal, where is the problem? Of course they slit the throat of the animal & let the blood drain. This is the least painful way, short of a guillotine. The animal is unconscious almost immediately. The blood has to be drained to keep from ruining the meat.
Last week my family roasted a chicken that we raised ourselves. And I didn't even bring a new baby into the world to slaughter that chicken.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

A bit of a myth (and hunter's justification for the sport) that this is a cull for the sake of the deer population. Only a tiny percentage of the white tailed deer is killed. Not enough to even start making a difference in population control. Hunting for sport is inadmissible. Hunting for food is different, as long as the animal has the same chances as the hunter which now, with all the automatic weapons, the rounding up of the deer with trucks, etc. is really not happening. Can't even really call it a sport either. Should be like in the 'old days'... up close and personal - guess there wouldn't be that many 'hunters' left....

While I'm ok with what they are doing, I don't buy the "it's their culture so its ok" excuse. If killing your first born was part of your culture would that means its ok? There is and always has been many fucked up cultural practices.. for instance, in many cultures women have no rights and are married off at a very young age by parents choosing. Is that ok because its part of their culture?

I don't think anyone was using culture as an excuse. I think the OP was using culture as a vehicle for his obvious problems. Our 'western' culture does the same (slaughter of animals), only in a different way.

I've come to learn a lot about taking a step back when it comes to hunting... Really, hunting for food is more sustainable than the agriculture and slaughterhouses we have. But i think these are good points when talking about the issue... I don't get how its sooo "manly" to shoot something with a rifle 50 feet away from it, and then taking a photo holding its antlers like you've really achieved something. That part of the "Sport" I really, really, REALLY hate.

It's probably a good thing that the OP isn't going to be there to share in this celebration. His attitude is revolting.

Not if you are using them for food. I've seen bodies of dead deer lying on the side of the road with their heads missing during hunting season where I used to live. Some hunters are heartless assholes who need trophies on their walls to make up for the small size of their penis and brains.

I absolutely use it for food. My friend's dad has been a hunter for 40 years and knows the in's and out's to preparing the carcass and draining, gutting etc. I only get 1 deer a year and that vennison lasts for months. I give some away as well but it is a great way to save $$ in the winter on groceries.

thats fucking horrible. that's the part i hate. "Look at me, son, i'm so manly and great. I killed a defenseless deer from 80 feet away with a rifle, carved off its head and hung it on the wall... isn't it beautiful?"

Yeah, I never hung a deer head on the wall. And I don't feel any more manly when I kill a deer. It is fun. It's like paintball only you get a few meals out of it after. If it was so horrible, why would it be legal to do?

Slavery was legal for a long time.

Anyways, my point is not to say you are inhumane for hunting, if you see my earlier post on the topic. I am all for hunting to eat, because it is probably more humane than eating from a slaughterhouse, and it is more sustainable. But its the pride factor in it i hate, and when you see dead carcasses on the side of the road with no head... then it becomes a real problem.

you're not going to get cropduster82 to think he's a horrible person for applying for a hunting permit, hunting deer during hunting season, seeing it similar to paintball and getting some meals (that reduce his grocery bills) for the winter. It helps him feed his family.

Same with the OPs in laws - if slaughtering 2 goats for a feast is something they do to celebrate - whether it's the birth of a child, a wedding, a rite of passage - who is the OP to say the in laws are horrible people merely for their beliefs? Granted he alludes to a more personal knowledge of them, beyond cultural differences

I'm not whizbang - in no post did I suggest that one can't kill game to eat. What I find offensive is that cropduster82 is stating killing is fun.. just like a game of paintball. I eat meat, I have friends who hunt deer to eat. I don't have a problem with that (though see caveats in a previous post). But saying killing is fun.... where does one stop with this 'fun'? Maybe cropduster was just being flippant. I hope so.

What I find offensive is you are saying to me I like killing. WRONG! The thrill of the hunt is what is fun to me. DURING DEER SEASON!!!! I do not kill in my spare time. I do not condone killing household pets or anything. But when I am afforded the opportunity to legally hunt 1 deer a season, I make the most of it. You say you have friends who hunt deer to eat. I do the same thing. But in you're eyes I'm a bad guy because I am not miserable while hunting and don't cry over the deer after I do it? Look,I could go to a butcher shop near me and buy deer meat if I wanted to eat it. But going up north with a couple buddies, practically living in the woods for a few days and getting to hunt, yes, that is fun for me. It also gives me some extra meat for the freezer in the winter. Hunting and killing 1(ONE) deer a year is fun for me, killing in general, not fun. Don't jump to conclusions and make false assumptions about me.

in my eyes, no one made false assumptions about you or jumped to any conclusions. you can't fault the guy for interpreting your post as you enjoying killing. Your quote: "And I don't feel any more manly when I kill a deer. It is fun. It's like paintball only you get a few meals out of it after."

How can you find it offensive that someone thought from that statement that you thought killing is fun? You said it is. "it is fun". How else can one contsrue that statement?

Don't get all bent out of shape if it was you that didn't explain yourself properly.

Personally, I find hunting abhorent. If you use the meat you killed, then fine. I still find it disgusting that humans think it's ok to go out and kill a defenseless animal from 50 feet away with a GUN just for enjoyment and some bonding time.

This is the second time I've seen you post your HATE towards people of color. It is their culture and their celebration and I gather you do eat meat. What does it matter that they celebrate 2 goat lives for the birth of a human child. In their eyes they maybe putting that child on a pedestal maybe more people should celebrate the entry to a child into this world in whatever way they choose. If you eat meat I see nothing wrong with this and even if you don't it's still quite appropriate.

Maybe that Pakistani family knew or can feel your hatred towards them and therefore chose NOT to invite your ass. Also if you showed up there and ran your disgust for their celebration I'd bitch slap you down just to put you in your racist place.
