Which 1998 Show is a must have?

I downloaded the 9/11 MSG show, but the sound quality is lacking. If I could only have one boot from 1998 which one would it be? Thanks for any and all opinions.

I really like the "quarter rant" show, i downloaded it to hear the rant, but I really enjoyed this boot, and the quality is pretty good. Can't remember date off the top of my head, but You Tube has it as 9/16/98 Mansfield
    Dublin, Reading 06
    London, Copenhagen 07
    MSG 08
    SBE, Manchester, London 09
    Dublin, Belfast, London 10
    Manchester, Berlin 12
    Amsterdam, Milton Keynes 14
    London 18
    London 22

Great Woods, Mansfield 16th September is my favourite. There was a Melbourne show broadcast on the JJJ radio station that year too which is excellent but I can't remember the date offhand. If nobody posts it in your thread I'll post it when I'm home from work.

Besides the 9/11 Garden show, Seattle 7/22 would be my pick.

Yeah they aired that on Triple-J radio that's why the quality is good. I feel like 1998 is the first tour that they started enjoying themselves at shows. If you're looking for quality sound, there isn't much. This was old school, audience recordings (those were the days). Mansfield, MSG are good as well as East Lansing (8/18) and Detroit (8/23) where Ed cuts a guys mullet off. In addition the closing 2 shows at West Palm Beach were great! There was an impending hurricane to go along with the tour closing.

I searched the Download/Share thread for that one with no results.

Anyone have a link for that show?

    TIA

3/5 Melbourne = Excellent Soundboard w/ Jack on drums
7/22 Seattle = Excellent Soundboard w/ Matt on drums

    You should get both.

  • Awesome! The Melborne show seems to have the most positive comments. I just hope the SQ is good. Like I said, I love the MSG 9/11 set list but the quality is not good.

not true on the sound quality. there are a ton of 98 shows with great sound quality. salt lake city is an excellent 2 source mix.

I got to a bunch of show on that tour and the two night MSG stand was easily the best. Crowd was dynamite

Don't ever believe all audience recordings from the 90's are poor quality. There are enough different sound settings on most mp3 players to find something acceptable for a good number of them to sound good. Keep reading the posts because these people know what they are talking about.

I wish there was a better recording of the Barrie toronto show. what an amazing show that was
  • ahhh... 1998. My first show was that summer in Missoula.

Still haven't found a good boot from that show. I know there's something out there, but heard the quality is horrible.

Can anyone help me out with this? PM if so.

    Sorry for the slight threadjack.
  • definitely Melbourne III 1998 is the best ive got
  • Ok, so I have downloaded and listened to about half of Melbourne III. You guys are right about the SQ. Excellent. Eddie mentions it's on the radio do I assume that's where the recording came from. Great stereo separation. Eddie's voice is definitely struggling though, because it's so early in the tour you think?
