I have a lot of friends who get depressed this time of year. Including myself & my girlfriend. Its weird. Not like suicidal, just bummed out. Its having no money to buy gifts & having a big family. 3 lil nieces who I want to have wonderful holidays like me & my 2 sisters did. Its just hard with unemployment & shit jobs. I'm lucky I can pay my damn bills let alone buy Xmas gifts! It just seems the older I get the more I could care less about the holidays... I feel guilty that I can't muster up some cheer but I can't even buy Xmas gifts! I dunno maybe I'm being a big boob. Anyone feel like this around the holidays??? Bummed out & poor & Blah...

yep. we put up our Christmas tree last night. I should say that I mostly drank beer and watched my GF put up the tree last night.
she was so happy, and singing christmas songs, and all I wanted to do was take a baseball bat to the tree and throw it out the window.

I get like that every year right at the start of the Holiday season, but I eventually come around.

I think I just remember how much my mom enjoyed getting the holiday decorations out, and it makes me sad.

good luck, don't worry about the money/gift thing, most people will understand. there is lots more you can do to make the season fun, and full of cheer. ;)
    Peace, Love.

Maybe you should suggest to the family to do a Chris Kringle?!
Throw everyones name in a hat and each person pulls out 1 name and buys that one person a gift within a set price range!
I know quite a few families that do that, i have suggested to my family that we do it, buying for 20 or more people takes a lot of time and of course a hell of a lot more money.. i think we are going to start doing it after this Christmas..Christmas day is a good day to do it for the year after because thats the perfect day to get everyone together :)

im happy with family, a turkey, fruit salad and a few wines...i like birthday presents myself..both giving of and recieving.... :D

If you can't buy something for them maybe do something for them offer to cook for them or babysit them while their parents go out make it fun for them it shouldn't just be about the material gift but more about personal givin :) ..

I've come to hate Giftmas. That's all it seems to be about: the obligation to buy people crap that they won't use anyway. It does get me depressed, especially since people forget what the holidays are truly about. If I had it my way, there'd only be gifts for kids, and just good food, booze and good times with family and friends. That's it.
