There have been a lot this year, but what's the best? The giant colossus that was the Neil Young Archives, the AC/DC amp box, Jane's Cabinet of Curiosities? What do you think?

I've been super happy with the NY Archives (Blu-Ray) box. I'm hoping to get the Tom Petty Live Anthology for Christmas. That looks like it has some real potential.

Box set of the year has to be the Beatles remasters.

  • The Neil Young box set is best? It's just such a dense, comprehensive body of work that it's hard not to give it that credit, but I think the sheer bulk and excess of it weighs it down. Look at the variety and unique nature of some of the other ones... I don't think it's a no-brainer Neil win, though it's certainly a contender.

That Pixies box set looks amazing but is way too costly.

I have to say the Beatles box set probably outsold any other box set released this year, thus making it the best of the year.

Neil Young's Archives is just amazing. The Beatles one is good too but the unreleased songs on NY's Archives make it a better buy in my opinion
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)
  • I don't consider remastering albums and selling them together a true box set.

I want box sets that give me something I've never heard or that has been unavailable before, but that's me.

    My vote goes to Neil.

    Ten SDE is pretty sweet.

Beatles stereo collection-It's the first time those mixes have gotten the attention they deserve.
  • There's been a few...
Neil Young Archives Vol. 1 is comprehensive, but it was bollox that loads of it was previously released.
    Beatles sets: :|
Ten Super Deluxe Edition was amazing for (mainly) its non-musical content: the passes, photos, the journal etc.
The Big Star boxed set is very cool for unreleased stuff. Especially for a band with such limited output.
The Pixies one was amazing, but the fucking cost! Looked good though.
Was the NIN one this year? Not really a fan, but it looked good. Especially the disc with all the individual tracks so you could remix everything yourself however you wanted to. And the first however many signed by Trent, too.
