coming around on Inside Job

Thanks to ACL, the tv show. This was one of the songs that, if you read this song's reviews on this board before avocado came out, you would have expected it to be Alive and Present Tense and In Hiding all wrapped into one song, so my expectations were high to say the least. Along with several other songs that I was oversold on, I was disappointed with about half of the album. For the longest time I kept trying to get into it, but never could. I wasn't crazy about Ed singing Mike's lyrics, which seemed kinda trite and boring recovery stuff. Then when I watched ACL the other night I really felt it, and I've listened to it about 30 times since. I'm really appreciating it now. I was SO impressed with Mike on ACL. Maybe it had something to do with the mix sucking and I couldn't hear much of Stone, but Mike owned the stage and seemed so in control and transcendent. Love that dude.

  • I didn't care for Inside Job much for about 2 years and now it is one of my absolute favorites. Great song and great ACL performance!

Similar thing happened with me-- at first I wasn't really into it, but it slowly grew on me, and lately it's one of my favorites to both listen to and play on guitar!

Has been one of my favourites since the album came out... love it. Love it live, love Mike's guitar work, love it all! Glad to hear you're coming around to it :)

army reserve was the one that really hit me from watching ACL. that is one fucking very underrated song.

  • I loved the story Mike told about how after he wrote the music Ed never put any lyrics to it so realizing it was not gonna be on the album he wrote the lyrics himself and sat down with Ed and sang it for him! He said he was so nervous but Ed loved it and the rest is history! Great great song!!!

    ahhhh that was awesome :)
  • Inside Job is easily one of my favorite songs of all time. I too was not that huge of a fan until I saw them play it live in Columbia, SC and it blew me away. Easily the best song off of Avocado
  • My second favorite song off of Avocado right behind Severed Hand. I have only been a fan for just over a year, and it took a while to get into the album and particularly this song.

I remember on July 4th I listened to their entire catalog from beginning to end throughout the day and obviously this would have been the last song I had heard that day. I was exhausted and it was after 3 am, but I had to stick it out and finish my job!

The song's slow build is so amazing and that night it just struck me as I struggled to stay awake, and that truly was when I first fell in love with the song, now one of my all-time favorites. I love the cool guitar sound around the one minute mark, which I believe is Stone. I love the length of the song and the way it just keeps building and building until it just slows down and fades into that cool little audio at the end of the track.

What is one the best live versions of the song? I was lucky enough to have finally heard it at the final Philly show.

Both songs are brilliant. It really shits me when people criticise these two songs. Just what pleases them? Would have loved to have heard either in Australia recently, but they didnt play them. Maybe they got wind of the whingers. Hope they play them in the future.

Wasn't too struck on the album version at first but it grew on me after hearing what I still regard the best versions, (Torino and Dublin 06) :)

  • I always loved this song, but when I found it out it was Mike's song about his recovery it went to another level. I think this song is just perfect. My favorite PJ song of the 00's.

  • Watching/Listening to ACL right now. It's really awesome!

However, the setlist seems to have nothing to do with the setlist posted under Tours for ACL. What gives?

I never really paid too much attention to this song -- I played it, but it never really stood out to me. Well when they played it in Philly it just completely blew me away!
