If i were the coach of the Panthers, this idiot would not see another minute of ice time the rest of the season.

idiotic, but clearly an accident born out of frustration.

  • Weird....

After he hit him with the stick....

He really doesnt seem to give a fuck......

    Right???

I mean he just kind of skates away........

Shouldnt he have been down on the ice, to see if his teammate was ok???
    Take me piece by piece.....

  • Yeah, and Vokoun is the only good thing the Panthers have going for them.

Don't worry about it Ballard, someone from the Leafs is bound to do something dumber before the end of the season, and everyone will forget about you putting Vokoun in the hospital!

It's weird, if you watch in slow-mo, it looks like he pauses to look at Vokoun after he hits him....then makes sure he breaks his stick on the backswing  before skating away.
I'm thinking he felt contact, but it probably wouldn't have felt like much with a stick in a baseball grip like that...he figured it was nothing and skated away, not realizing he had hurt him. What's the alternative....he slashed his own goalie for a bad goal? Now THAT would be fucked up...but I can't believe it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this makes the league crack down on this shit tho....how cheese to take a second swipe to make sure your stick breaks. video game hockey
    Start enforcing the unsportsmanlike penalty...

Todd Bertuzzi is still playing hockey after what he did, so I doubt the NHL will do anything to punsh this guy. Sad, really. Bertuzzi should be in jail.

He didn't even know he hit the goalie until he got to the bench and saw the replay.
It was an accident. A dumb one, but an accident nonetheless.

That HAD to be the case cause I was wondering after he hit Voukon he skated off the ice. An accident, I know I've done my share of idiotic things on the the ice, street, pitch, court and diamond.

honestly ... i'm gonna go with not an accident ...

    1. he came nowhere close to hitting anything except the goalie
    2. how do you smack a goalie with your stick and NOT know it?
    3. hockey players have great hand/eye co-ordination

Exactly. I think it was an accident, but there is no way he didn't know he hit him. If you swing a stick at something and feel an impact before you think you should, you'd know something is wrong instantly. The fact that he skated off after he did it proves he's a douche, but still I think it was unintentional.

If he had that great of an hand/eye coordination he should have struck his jugular if this was not an accident. I had pretty good H/E coordination and I still missed my targets a majority of the time.

in watching it again - maybe he was aiming to hit the right goal post ... in this video you show - at least you can tell the player knew he hit the goalie ... i refuse to believe dude didn't know he hit him in the head ... so, if it indeed was an accident - why not help your goalie when he clearly goes down right after?

it would be interesting to see the league's / world's reaction if this was sean avery.

guaranteed the league would have already banned him from the game.

There is barely any time between the time the blade of the stick hit Vokoun in the head and then the stick shaft hitting the post, so it's easy to see how he wouldn't have known.

I doubt they'd ban him from the game...but if it was an Avery or a Downie, it should be a bigger deal. Having a history does make a difference.

What's funnier is that Ballard ran into Colorado (and former Florida) goalie, Craig Anderson, last night. Anderson left the game with an injury.

Honestly, if anyone were to have taken action, it should've been the team. But they saw it was a completely boneheaded accident, and have moved on. Vokoun is fine. There wasn't any intent to injure (duh). It wasn't some vicious, blindsided, head-smushing, knee-knocking, slew-footing insanity. Whatever.

    Let tonight's games begin.

Are you ready to be shocked???

I live in Minnesota, born and raised here, and I've NEVER played hockey.

Sure I'm been on skates, and used a hockey stick before, but that was......damn....probably 20 years ago.

    Bad Goalie!!

haha, what a nut case...They tell you not to look where you dont want to go when skiing in tricky areas. This guy looks like he is clearly focused on the goalies head when following through on his swing..
