UK Boots - Anyone got done on postage?

My bootlegs arrived at my parents house this week. I ordered O2, Shepherds Bush + Berlin. I had to pay a further £12 to Royal Mail, £4 for VAT and £8 for 'handling'.

I haven't seen the actual wording yet, but what a con!! £12 isn't going to break the bank, but on principle why am I being charged this? If I ordered the CDs separately they would have fallen under any 'customs' fees.

Just interested to hear if anyone else got stung by this before I write a stern letter for a refund.

(nothing wrong with PJ side of transaction, just Royal Mail)

Yeah, loads of people have been caught out, you have to pay for any package worth over £17. I gather from other threads customs are stopping 1 in 3 parcels or so.
If you order them individually you don't have to pay any fees as they fall beneath the limit.

  • Cheers for the tip. I will do that for the Philly bootlegs I think. Rather give the extra postage money to PJ than to people who strike for a living. Think I will still complain. Small print or not, it seems illogical.

Sorry, didn't search for other threads

No probs :) I think it costs the same to order them individually as the postage is per disc no matter how many you order at once.
Yeah, someone said that customs are even opening parcels marked as gifts as they know people are marking them as that when they are not.
Kufala did say they were looking at how the customs declarations are completed as they are done automatically.

Sorry to hear that, it is a bit odd. I had my last 4 delivered all on the same day but in 2 packages and it just cost me what it should have?

Oh, I just posted over on technical & help re UK customs Bas turds. According to the UK cutoms site if the value of items is £36 or less (about $60) they wont charge duty and they wont charge duty on the first few items in a package that add up to this so long as the contents are listed individually. Dont do what I did and add Intl Membership to your order or you'll get charged tax on that amount too.

Sorry, didnt think to search anywhere other than Tech&Help

Sounds like ordering individually is the way to go, fortunately I only ordered one.

Really kind offer of Joe2468. :D

It sucks but we all know the way around it is to order seperately... only hassle with that is having to enter your details multiple times. It's an unfortunate lesson we all learn once. You usually get stung with these charges for T shirts etc from 10c too.
