Immortality Lyrics change
When the lyrics to Immortality change from this:
To what appeared on Vitalogy:
Just curious.
I could take the sun
I could call the couple anyone
I won't tell the comfort in the world
I can't take it off
I won't say, "Enough, it's not my fault"
I won't care, there's something in the wind
Take me as I am
I don't need this
I die just to live
Immortality...
I could paint the moon
I could reflect light into a room
If I could, the fortune all be there (?)
I could paint it all
I won't say, "Enough, it's not my fault"
I won't call the altar in the air
Take me as is
I don't need this
I die just to live
Immortality...
I can't take a walk
I won't fight this world
I won't save it all
It is not my fault
Take me as is
I don't need this
I die just to live
I won't stay long
I'll be long gone
I die just to live...
To what appeared on Vitalogy:
Vacate is the word...vengeance has no place on me or her
Cannot find the comfort in this world
Artificial tear...vessel stabbed...next up, volunteers
Vulnerable, wisdom can't adhere...
A truant finds home...and a wish to hold on...
But there's a trapdoor in the sun...
Immortality...
As privileged as a whore...victims in demand for public show
Swept out through the cracks beneath the door
Holier than thou, how?
Surrendered...executed anyhow
Scrawl dissolved, cigar box on the floor...
A truant finds home...and a wish to hold on too...
He saw the trapdoor in the sun...
I cannot stop the thought...I'm running in the dark...
Coming up a which way sign...all good truants must decide...
Oh, stripped and sold, mom...auctioned forearm...
And whiskers in the sink...
Truants move on...cannot stay long
Some die just to live...
Ohh...
Just curious.
I’ve seen Pearl Jam 25 times, Eddie Vedder 9 times, and Brad once.

I don't care that Ed denies it publically..
AND the final version includes the lyrics "scrawled" (The suicide letter) "disolved"( the suicide) "cigar box on the floor" (the cigar box with Kurt's drug stuff found on the floor next to his body)
simple as that..

I am pretty sure the final version that ended up on Vitalogy, if I have my memory (always suspect) and timeline correct was the penultimate track completed after Mike got out of rehab. The other track being Ed, Jeff and Jack doing the work on Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me.
My guess would say they tracked this song in some form down in Atlanta, in April 1994. Then the album version was cut in multiple stages in April & May in Seattle and Mike doing additional guitar work in June or July. This is all patchworkmoosefunk from memory of old websites and articles that used to have some of this information including an interview with Mike in late 1994 or early 1995.
The best source of information for this would be a Brendan O'Brien producers compendium to the Pearl Jam records, which obviously would need an assist from Adam Kaspar and Tchad Blake among others. But I'd buy, it so would you if you are reading this...
