the most ridiculous advertised sales for the morning after Thanksgiving. We've noticed that it's not enough for stores to open at 6am anymore, now it's 5am, or 3am (THREE AM!!! ) for the consumers to get their grubby little hands on merchandise.

Anyone else care to post the most silly ad you've seen?

So far the worst one we've seen is the "Gobble Palozza" at Old Navy starting at 3am. :? :D

4:00 am for Kohl's and JC Penny's in the Philly area - it's absurd. What kind of fool is going shopping at 4:00 am?
  • i rarely watch tv so don't really see commericals. that said, we were at the movie theatre the other day and they handed out a coupon for old navy good only on thanksgiving. i just thought...wtf? those poor people, working on thanksgiving! ridiculous! shopping is not 'emergency services'....not even related to the holiday. i think it's wrong. i mean, at least waitstaff get tipped, people at old navy don't make much, and now infringing on their holidays even more. craziness. :x :(

  • I have never stepped in to a store on Black Friday.
Come to think of it, I never step in to a store at all during the
Christmas holiday. I only buy gifts for 2 people and I do that on-line.

My son came down stairs a moment ago and told me he saw a commercial for JC Penney for a 4am opening.

The commercial showed people tailgating in the mall parking lot and eating turkey out of the back of their pick-up trucks!!! :P
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&
  • there are outlet stores near me that will be opening at midnight...not sure if that's only for so many hours and then they close or if they then just stay open...crazy

I am going shopping Friday but I'm not going before 9am

To be honest, I've lined up at Best Buy a couple of years in a row for their 5am openings. I've never been to close to the front of the line for these openings. A lot of crazy shit goes down. They hand out coupons for the few LARGE items that are onsale to the first few folks inline as they only have a few PS3's or Xbox's at the sale price. I've seen these people take their coupons and sell them to folks waiting in the back of the line. Incredible. I've also seen, as the line is moving into the store once it opens up, people's messes they have made by having their whole Thanksgiving meals in the parking lot while waiting in line. It really is too much. I will not be partaking in these events this year.

hehe. I keep track of this every year. This year I've heard 4 am, but not 3! That's insanity! I've never gone to one of these sales- are the prices really that good?

I've never gone to one either. I refuse to encourage this kind of thing.

I always think about the people whose holidays get ruined because they have to go work at these sales!!

More than that, I don't want to see a line of greedy people.

I know, I remember the day when NOTHING was open on Thanksgiving. Now most places are. It's a shame really, it should be a day we can all spend with our loved ones stuffing our faces. :D

The earliest I've heard around here is 4:00am - Kohls. Ridiculous.
Don't come closer or I'll have to go

Yeah me too. I hope they get paid a lot of overtime. I bet there's probably a lot of employees who volunteer to take the shift.

I don't know if the people would necessarily be so greedy, I mean I would think that have to really need to save money on your Christmas shopping to get up and do that. Though it has become sort of a cult thing.

um, aren't ANY of us to be employed...lucky to have jobs?
    so my point still stands.
i don't expect all to necessarily agree, but i personally think it's just ridiculous for fucking kmart and the like to be open simply for crazy sales. have the crazy sales after the holiday. it just punishes the employee imo.
now i do realize there ARE jobs that are necessary, 7 dyas a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. my husband has such a job, luckily, he is past having to work such shifts and usually gets off for holidays. however, working in a hospital, or in law enforcement, even a pharmacy or a gas station...not the same as kohls being open so someone can get a sweater for $25 less. that's all.

I saw a report this morning that said some places (it specifically named Best Buy) are going through dry run rehearsals as a result of Wal-Mart killing that temporary employee last year.

Don't let the fact that it is now necessary to run employees through rehearsals in order to avoid potential calamaity overshadow the fact that Wal-Mart, and a bunch of idiots killed a guy in 2008.
