Hartford Will Kick Ass Because...

No one is expecting anything!!!! Is anyone else here so damn sick of everyone trying to predict the next "epic" show? The NY vs Boston rivalry is so out of control on this forum that its nice to have one show break in between all the arguments.

Lets put it this way: Hartford will be my only show this tour. Do I care if its better than MSG or Boston... no. Hell I won't even bother debating if it comes close to any of those shows. Why? Because it doesn't matter.

Maybe its just me since I've only seen one show so far (which by the way sucked because it was right after Gorge 1... lol) but I don't understand why people can't just chill and realize that every show will be good in its own way and each will be special if you're in attendance (yes even if they play a "greatest hits" show).

Of course no one is forcing me to check out this board every day- I like doing that. But it would be so much more enjoyable to not have to see all the unnecassary arguments all the time.

  • I'm pretty sure the worst attempt at an insult I've ever seen on this board is calling a show a greatest hits set. My response to that is, "Ok...?" I realize we all want that one, two, three, or seven songs to make our show unique, but as long as it's a Pearl Jam show and you are in attendance, there should be nothing but good things on your mind (concerning the show I mean). I've actually seen people DURING A SHOW, compare it to something else. "Oh, this blows the shit out of DC!" or "ahhh, night 1 was so much better." Who cares? There's some complex or jealousness between city rivalries that just shouldn't be.

I've been to the past 5 shows, with tomorrow being the 6th, and I can't fucking wait to hear GTF, DTE, and Severed Hand again. Yea, I'd love to hear Nothingman, Sleight of Hand, and Alone, but that's just the cumshot on the blowjob. People compare setlists like they feel superior if they were at a show where a seldom played song showed up to people who were at shows where Betterman, Alive, Black and the like were played. It just makes no sense to me that people are trying to put down other peoples times. The purpose of a Pearl Jam show is to lose yourself with your friends, family, and fans and for 2 and a half hours put everything on the shelf. It's when people focus on more than that, the insignificant stuff, the comparisons is where they've distorted the purpose of these events. It's to have a great fucking time.

Thats exactly how I feel. I guess some comparison isn't bad but on this forum it always turns to bashing and insults.

Quoted for truth, couldn't have put it a better way, an exemplary post.

The posts in this thread are great, just the attitude I wish more Pearl Jam fans, or rock fans in general, had ... can't you just fucking relax and enjoy the moment? If you are gonna whine because of this or that, you heard the same song again or they didn't play a certain song (those pussies!), or the guy next to you smoked too much pot or last night's energy was better or you didn't get a poster or your seats sucked or somebody with a higher number got better seats or the opening band wasn't to your liking or you didn't get a pick or too many people were talking on their cell phones ... shut the fuck up and enjoy the show!
I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!

...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!

I think tonight is going to be a great show. The band isnt going to have the pressure of the "big city" show..... it's outdoors, people are always so much more relaxed...
    the crowd should be great.....

I'm gonna be honest, I thought Hartford would be a huge let down. Right after the epic MSG, and right before Mansfield, surely, I thought, it would be the worst show of the tour. Turns out I was wrong! Congrats on a great show, Hartforders!

And now I'm struggling with MSG because of the insanely high expectations I had. Everyone on here was so excited about it and, since I have much less PJ experience than most of you, I thought you guys would be right about MSG being the epic shows of the tour. The fact that the 03 shows were so amazing didn't help either. I thoroughly enjoyed the shows but because of what I was expecting (stuff like Breath, Crown Of Thorns, lots of weird, cool stuff), I kinda felt disappointed, especially after seeing how this Hartford show went. Hopefully, I'll eventually find peace with myself over the shows (maybe once the boot comes out).

You Hartforders went in expecting nothing special and that made it even better, I'm sure, once you experienced the awesomeness of the show. I envy you!!!

wtf just happened in hartford...that was out of control....that was a true "dvd worthy" concert....flawless aside from one slip up from stone in DTE lol....mike literally was on fire after he made it sloppily through a solo in one of the first couple songs...I can't believe this show was an amazing surprise! I saw the 2 MSG's and Hartford...if nyc didnt have the crowd energy I'd take Hartford in a heartbeat...i still might....17th show tonight and im still in shock

for those of you who skipped Hartford because in the past it was just a so so show. You got burned last night.

This was my first show ever, i was skeptical because people say lawn seats "arent even worth it" and that hartford has horrible setlists.

It seemed eddie had a little more energy, and interacted quite a bit.

I mean my first show ever and i got to hear garden, and leash. That alone says something. That 1st encore fucking rocked hard.

I loved eddies rant about Joints and Fatties. haha. good times,
    6/27/08!
